3. He responded to an earlier lie.
Bush went on about how his tax plan benefits the middle class, which of course is a load of horse pucky. So then after they went to another question, Kerry backed up to the tax cut issue and explained very emphatically that Bush's plan does not benefit the middle class. So he didn't let Bush get away with the lie or have the last word. Very nicely done.
