...then I went outside and held the Kerry sign for passing motorists to see for the rest of the day. I took two of my boys with me and will take the other two when I do it today.
It took 45 minutes for me to vote. a poll worker told me it was the shortest wait she had seen up to that time. Afterwards I went outside and held the Kerry sign for the rest of the day. I could see the lines from my vantage point and they didn't go down at all. While waiting to vote I heard a man tell his wife, who was decked out in * clothing, that it was good that the workers were checking i.d.'s closely because in the last election 68,000 people voted in Florida and also voted absentee in their home states. I asked him where he had heard that in a somewhat anticipatory tone as if I was supportive of the thought. He told me Fox News. I laughed and said "Well if you're going to listen to them you'll fall for anything." His look was a cross between indignation, disbelief and anger. He said "Bullshit!" loudly but not shouting. I never broke eye contact with him and repeated his word in the exact tone that he used. His look changed to shock that, I'm speculating here, anyone would treat him the way he would treat others. He continued the stare for a moment and then continued in line behind his wife. She quietly told me that the story had come from the Florida governor's office. I said quietly, "Again, Fox News and a Bush." We didn't speak with one another for the rest of the wait.
