4. Did you tell her abortion rates have RISEN since * took office?
Yeah, poverty and joblessness and no health care tends to make people not want to have the kid...

It's true.

Historically, the church has a bad record of thinking for others.

7. Encourage?
I got this from a Wisconsin Synod Lutheran a while back.

"You guys believe in abortion! You guys believe in gay pastors!"

"Why yes, I believe they exist. What's your point."

Hell, no one is going around shouting "Yea abortion! Oh boy! More spare parts!"

10. Also, send her this article
http://www.sojo.net/index.cfm?action=sojomail.display&issue=041013#5

It was posted by a fellow DUer last weekend. It's by a man so pro-life that he and his wife knowingly had a profoundly disabled child rather than get an abortion. He makes the case that Bush has made the abortion problem worse.

Not to mention all those Iraqi babies aborted by their pregnant mothers being killed or those dying themselves shortly after birth.

11. Pam
I have an 11 year old son going to school in a mostly Republican community and he has a teacher that shows her bias. (for Bush)
My son is one of three kids in the class who is really supporting Kerry and the other kids are ganging up on him when he states democratic talking points (not fully funding NCLB or No WMD ect...) when they don't have a truthful argument they resort to calling him names and the teacher hasn't been real helpful. I would like to talk to the teacher could you offer any suggestions for me on how to broach this with her? just asking

15. first and formost that teacher
needs to be controlling her classroom and that includes NO bullies. She also needs to be called on her bias. If she intends to have debates, she must do both sides equally. I let my students talk but I engage in both sides of the arguement. I am sure if you polled my students, they would think 50/50 on how I was voting.

If she continues to let things like that happen, you need to move up the chain. If that doesn't work, a visit to the school board on SAFETY of your child could become a concern!

12. From a recovering Catholic: This religion defies ALL logic.
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 09:06 PM by Texas_Dem
Most American Catholics are what is known as "cafeteria" parishioners, meaning they pick and chose what they want to believe from doctrine.

Your student went for the abortion plate, and skipped over most of the 10 commandments.

13. She'd rather have a guy who can
"Shock and Awe" 10,000 furriners to bits in a single night. The abortion watchers are so focused on this one point to the exclusion of eveything else it's like a kid who took a trip to the Grand Canyon and spent the whole time playing his gameboy. They are blind to 99.9% of the rest of the issues and troubles in the world.

Tell her bush* is pro-death penalty so in the eyes of the Church they cancel each other out. Oh, and the Pope said Iraq was an immoral unjust war...

19. Ask her if...
she has actually read Seamless Garment and the Roman church's teachings on life and death. Seamless Garment has become one of their central teachings. Whether or not one is Catholic, or has any religion at all, Seamless Garment is a masterful document and is an excellent starting point for such discussions.

Kerry is not exactly anti-war, but does seem to subscribe to Just War, which is the only form of war permitted under Catholic teachings. The Catholic Church has already stated that Iraq is not Just War.

Kerry is largely against the death penalty, which is also against Catholic teachings, and prominently mentioned in Semaless Garment. The Pope and many American bishops have pleaded with this country to stop capital punishment.

Kerry never said or implied he "encouraged" abortions, and has said he would prefer to see less of them and would like to discourage them, within the law. He essentially holds to the Catholic teaching that abortion is wrong, but the confusion arises when he also says that he cannot impose his personal religious beliefs on the country.

here is my stand.

ABORTION SHOULD NOT BE ON THE POLITICAL PLAYGROUND. PERIOD.

23. They talked about it on the news tonight
I think one of the cardinals wrote a letter saying that you can vote for someone who believes in it under special circumstances. The priest who was talking said 4 Bishops are telling people to vote prolife but 180 are telling them they don't have to and the news shouldn't keep talking about the 4 who are.

24. Bush owns Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Abortion is still here
Republicans live off this issue, but don't have the balls to confront it. Why? They would loose waaaaaaay too much public support.

27. They don't have 5 votes on today's Supreme Court. But they will
if Bush gets elected. Unless the SC changes, they will need 3/4 (or is it 2/3) of Congress to support a constitutional amendment, plus 38 states to ratify it. They have simple majorities but they don't have the votes to win this battle.

I don't think it has anything to do with "balls." They don't have the power now, but can get it if Bush wins.
