Iowa DUers--What's Going on There???
Head is swimming. A poll this morning or yesterday - it's getting to be a blur - finally had Kerry like 5 points up and on his way. Then it's been this Mason Dixon, and SuveyUSA and whatever that has Bush like 6 points up. What is going on there?? Kerry has to have these Gore states.

1. If it means anything, Edwards and Kerry rally attendance is HUGE
Kerry had to add an extra rally yesterday in Waterloo to accomodate those who wanted to see him.

In Iowa City, where I am at, the campaign is working really hard on GOTV and people seem pretty motivated. . .Iowa City and Johnson County are the liberal bastion of the state, but there are lots of Dems here and they will vote.

2. The Davenport and Dubuque areas along with Waterloo, etc.
must be Dem bastions or things have really changed there. Lots of union workers. What have you seen in local papers or Des Moines Register as far as polls. Anything???????

6. I'm not aware of polling . . . just the usual Gallup, Zogby, etc
but in general newspaper and TV coverage of K/E is good in that they let them speak for themselves (rather than the BS CNN-style Summaries), they interview them, and the local stations showed Kerry's Waterloo speech in it entirety.

3. I'm not from Iowa.. but I have some numbers you might like.
By party..

The Republicans have managed to register a bit more than 9000 new voters.
The Democrats have registered.. over 50000 new voters.

If this tells us anything, it tells us that our ground game is collectively better than that of the GOP's.

---

Another comforting set of facts..

If Kerry splits NM and NV with Bush (1 for each),
if he wins Ohio (which all indications are that he will),
if he wins New Hampshire (again, quite likely),
and if he wins the rest of the Gore states..
he'd be able to afford losing one of MN, WI, or IA and still come-out over 269EVs.

4. The new poll is Good News
I believe that Kerry is ahead by 3-4 points in Iowa. But, because of this stupid new poll I am going to be working the phone banks tomorrow night and canvassing this weekend. I was going to slack, but I can do that in two weeks.

Go Hawkeyes!
