Is Teresa Heinz a republican?
She's really made some stupid comments; the latest being the really dumb comment aimed at Pickles (*'s robotic stepford wife) - which had a knock-on effect of angering any public school teacher; whose jobs are underpaid and are at increasing risk of getting cut due to budget cuts and the repuke move toward private schooling (for 'public', also read '"Christian"').

8. I guess you didn't like Hillary either?
Please, the media takes one sentence out of context and harps on it for 3 days and Teresa is hurting our cause? Give me a break.

Please post Teresa's exact comments in context and then maybe we can have a reasonable discussion.

I don't think it's possible to be a normal human being and not give the Repugs cannon fodder.

19. I Agree 100%
They are vipers ...

That's why we need to be careful...

There's nothing I wouldn't say about a Puke to elect Kerry but it the things we would say that make that eventuality more difficult...

I watch tv all day with the mute button on... The cable media had a field day with it...

3. I doubt that one comment turned all teachers against her.
Especially given Bush's education policies.

23. Public school teachers are furious with bush
From what I've observed, you're absolutely right that this comment will have no effect on the schoolteacher vote. I know dozens of teachers, and none of them have had a good word to say about bush for years now.

5. Get over this crap, We are NOT electing a FIRST LADY
We are however electing a president and we need to be questioning the competency of GWB.
This crap of making a big deal out of what one of the spouses said or one of the children said is bull shit. If it does not directly reflect on a policy statement by the candidate then it should be insignificant and left to the National Enquirer.

Our efforts need to be directed at getting John Kerry elected on November 2, 2004(PERIOD)

10. My point is that we keep the fire going here by whining about
what she said.
If we were talking about how to rebuke the repuke charges then the discussion here would make sense. But this is not what happens.
I just think we have more important things to accomplish.
We have to beat Karl Rove, GWB and the Media.
GWB is easy but the other two have big weapons and are not afraid to use them.

17. And would you do better?
She's not a professional politician. She's not running for office. If you were bombarded with questions by reporters day-in-day-out for six months, would you remain 100% on message?

but I'd just as soon she stayed in Pa for the remainder of the campaign. At this stage in the campaign any small mistake or comment will be magnified.

11. the question is what had Laura the librarian/teacher done for
teachers and librarians? She has not worked in thirty years at it. I think most will ask that rather than vote for Bush because THK goofed.

Remember she would not allow war poets into her little tea party. No self respecting librarian would do that. Those poets are only one group that has emerged that I consider heroes against Bush's war. She has been relegated to and limited to raising money for her war criminal husband and cute little photo ops showing her reading to little kids. Has she supported the librarians position against Ashcroft's intrusion into library files without the knowledge of the citizen using the library? I have never seen her really connnecting to the kids as a human being might--

Laura is an example of a manufactured personality, formed by Bush propaganda and the media. She did nothing for most of her cushy life but work a few years and raise two petulant, spoiled brats, whose main concern has been drinking and partying, flouting underage drinking laws, falsifying driver license, and dressing like bordello queens for the public to admire in their "latest designer fashions" that cost thousands of dollars.

13. Republican Does Not Equal Evil Or Underhanded
It just happens to work out that way most of the time. But I happen to have great respect for people that I oppose on ideological grounds. I almost wish Teresa was still a Republican, just to prove the point.

I seriously hope against hope that the tone in Washington changes - even if most Republicans hate Kerry, I hope that Kerry actively courts the moderate Republicans to help push through his agenda of real reform on issues like health care and the environment.

There was a time when Dean and Kerry people were at each others throats, but we have found a way to work together to the betterment of our country. I know it is somewhat different, but it is something to think about.

"Elsewhere, Teresa Heinz Kerry apologized today for saying that Laura Bush never held a real job, noting that for the past twenty-seven years Mrs. Bush has worked with the mentally impaired."

24. I doubt Laura's 2 years of teaching made real teachers love her.
The effects of her hubby's policies are more real to them. Laura dropped teaching & tried librarianship. Then dropped that when she met Bush. She quit working years before she became a mother & never went back.

Teresa did misspeak. Laura had a couple of jobs but never had a career. Besides, she's said she's not mad at Teresa.

25. John and Teresa Heinz were part of an extinct breed
They were liberal Republicans. In fact, they were more liberal than a lot of Democrats. Like a lot of people in PA, her ideology didn't change. Just her registration.

26. You're right
I grew up in western Pennsylvania, John Heinz was extremely popular there. He would fit in perfectly in the DLC today. That's the type of republican he was. Those republicans just don't exist today. The whole party has turned into a freak show.
