Drudge: DEAN LEAVES DOWD WAITING BY PHONE (all caps as cut and pasted)
I know this is Drudge, but he is usually accurate about what is going to break in the New York Times. Believe it or not I am not sure what to think of Maureen Dowd, but this should be an interesting read nonetheless.

DEAN LEAVES DOWD WAITING BY PHONE
Sat Jan 17 2004 9:10:05 ET

**Exclusive Preview**

NEW YORK TIMES op-ed queen Maureen Dowd was left waiting by the phone by Democratic presidential nominee Howard Dean, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

After scheduling a phone interview with Dowd at her hotel in Des Moines, the candidate never called!

Dowd is preparing to write about the snub in her Sunday column, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

"I never got the five minutes with him!" Dowd regrets. "Which left me five minutes to think about why his candidacy was sputtering."

After her hit piece about his wife's clothing and refusal to stop being a doctor instead of a Barbie doll, maybe she should take the hint.

Poooooooor baby!

10. True but. . .
. . .if the New York Times publishes Maureen Dowd's column tomorrow and she goes with this. . .he is credible on this point at least. As I said he is usually accurate about what the NYT will run with.

I very rarely post Drudge and I have not idea how this craps over my credibility, are you trying to make it personal?

39. Who's trying to make it personal? Did anyone mention YOUR credibilty?
Drudge is a loser. And so is Maureen Dowd. Maybe he got hung up. Maybe he did snub her. Maybe it was an accident. I mean, there's just about a day left before the caucus.

Remember when Gingrich claimed Clinton sunbbed him? Who knows?

Don't pay attention to Drudge anymore, btw.

5. Anyone expecting Maureen to take the high road?
Anyone think she'll write something complimentary or, in fact, was EVER planning to write something complimentary about Dean?

And why, exactly, did she give Drudge the story of her snub?

I'm not saying it didn't happen.

Nevertheless, a Drudge exclusive should be taken with the same skepticism that one often reserves for the headlines one sees in the supermarket checkout line. Those are things I often don't believe are true and usually don't care whether they are or not.

9. I Won't Waste My Energy Bad Mouthing Drudge
but Dowd is a self absorbed hack whose only purpose in writing pieces is to prove how "clever" she is and to maintain her status as Journalist so she can continue to have an excuse for being invited anywheres.

Without her Press Pass and the NYTimes as her mouth piece she would be reduced to waiting on trendy teens in the Boutique section of Nordstroms.

12. For this reason alone,
I may support Dean. And just as I've suspected all along: Dowd is a "call-girl."

Does it get ANY worse than Dowd? Empty, year-book pencilings dress her editorials. The only thing that could have made this story better is if Dean had pulled a Bart Simpson: "Yeah, I'm calling for Vapid-Idiot-Shallow-Vaccuaous-Media Whore-Maureen Dowd, can you please locate Vapid-Idiot-Shallow-Vaccuous-Media Whore-Maureen Dowd." O.K., so I lack the subtlety of Matt Groenig et al.

she just has shit for brains when she is jealous of Bill and Hillary, or about any Dem that notes the times she previously crapped on Dems, and doesn't kiss her ass (this is based on my limited observations of Mo - never closer than 30 feet - and a decade of her columns - so it is all "IMHO" - in my humble opinion).

23. Good for Dean!
Dowd should write for the NY Post, not the NY Times.

She is just a glorified gossip columnist.

After the shit she wrote on Dean's wife, and her obnoxious obsession with Clark's argyle shirts, she deserves no respect.

I doubt the Iowa voters hinge their candidate support on Dowd's columns.

I like her. Seems like a real person, a real person with a purpose, other than her husband's career, in life. Just the type of First-Lady role model I'd want for young girls. And she genuinely looks happy too. Good for Dean. Good for her.

And this is according to Drudge? Interesting, it's probably true but I'll reserve comment till her article comes out.

As far as leaving her hanging, oh well I'm sure if that is true she'll have plenty of venom to spew ala Coulter.

30. Please honor our party by NOT USING DRUDGE as a source...
His "reports" are usually bullshit. IF it breaks in the Times, then use the Times then.

His report on Clark a couple of days ago was completely distorted and DU USERS themselves exposed that. In shame he pulled his "flash" on that one.

Wait until it appears in the times before posting this total BULLSHIT.

I ask you this as a CLARK supporter.

is part of the industry of lies and hate. I don't believe anything he says about any of them. The only thing I believe from him is his attacks on O'Rielly, 'cause they hate each other, so Drudge will expose him. (even then it is biased, but I don't mind)

48. Maureen lethally right as a laser beam here (as usual)
Say what you want about Maureen Dowd and her pithy brand of commentary, I find her thinking homes in on essential truths which we may or may not want to admit. From this piece I cite the following:

On Harkin

As recently as the J-J Dinner, Tom Harkin was mistakenly referring to Dean as "John Dean", and she reveals that Kerry was "infuriated" by his endorsement of Dean. Personally, the Harkin endorsement was the most bitter disappointment of the Kerry campaign for me by far. This just helps reveal how hollow it really was.

On Dean and his campaign
"Shunning personal storytelling, Dr. Dean has chosen to make his campaign arc about his campaign arc." And this is sort of what the Harkin endorsement was about- not Dean himself, but the movement he has attracted and become. Yes, Dean has proven he will talk tough and stand up to Bush- and a legion of angry Democrats has lined up behind him, but beside that, what is backing him up from his personal history? Before civil unions, the only thing that excited Howard was balancing a budget, and extending a healthcare plan which was already in place when he took office. And even then, he wasn't so excited or proud about the civil unions bill that he wanted to sign the bill publicly.
Contrast this "personal history" with someone like Kerry or Kucinich, who have had real and strong convictions which they have been acting on their entire adult lives. They didn't wait around for some mid-life conversion to come around to an altruistic mindset- it was in their bones from day one.

But the real killer here is her choice of title- Dudgeons, which are the handles of daggers, and specifically made of wood. Maureen makes her point so well here with her choice of this word, for it correctly labels Dean as the mere handle of the real weapon here- the anger of Democrats. And as I have pointed out before- this makes Dean both expendable and replaceable.

DOWD- Dudgeons and Dragons
