Christian fundamentalists have hijacked our country. What can we do now?
I posted a poll a little while ago that came out to pretty much unanimously saying that Christian fundamentalists have taken over our country. Now, since we believe that to be true, how do we solve this problem? How do we take back our country from these people? I see this as a particularly difficult question since people of religion aren't going to be swayed away from it. What's your take?

1. Educate the fools
who hijacked our churches and turned them into bastions of hate and vengance?
Remember the abortion clinic murders?
Fucking fools.

7. No. It should be about loving their neighbor
and not about demonizing Democrats.

4. Coallesce, grow stronger. . .
live our lives and prosper.

In short, fight the next battle with everything we have.

There is no shame in losing. There is only shame in not making the effort.

We've made the effort and we have to do it again, and again.

5. I don't really know if they've taken over.
I know they'd like to and I know those in power have used them to get into power. I'm not really sure that W is really a Fundamentalist. I think he might just be pretending. I actually heard a Fundie before the election saying something along the lines about how the Repugs had the WH and the Senate and House, basically, and abortion was still legal. That's a good point. The only thing I think about is how far those in power and going to go to keep the Fundies on their side and when the Fundies are going to start demanding results. I think the more secular Repugs string the religious zealots along, but they might catch on. Then what? That's what I wonder about.

11. We need to point this out to everyone
I thought the same thing weeks ago. We're going to have 8 years of control of all 3 branches of government and they still haven't eliminated abortion. Of course they won't do that. It works too well for them.

15. Eliminating abortion
requires a majority vote in the Supreme Court.

When Rehnquist retires next year, * will appoint some far-right wackjob to replace him.

And they'll get the majority to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Start an alternative media, and ban black box voting.
Then we could have free and fair elections.

8. False GAWD
Part of the problem is that Christianity itself has been hijacked.
The fundies speak to a GAWD that does not embody ANY of the
teachings of the faith. Their GAWD is false and needs to be destroyed.
How? I don't know yet... I wish the church could step in to right itself.

13. You can't educate these people,
they refuse to believe anything other than what is written in a 2000 year old book, filled with stories of talking snakes and donkeys. A book that was put together by men that thought the world was flat and the stars were lanterns in the sky. I'm at a loss on how to change things. The Evangelicals are gaining a firmer and firmer grasp on this country. Taking a look at Europe and England, we have the most supersticious, backward thinking people on the planet right here in the good old USA and they looooooove the dim son.

Believe it or not...I've already begun infiltrating one local church...they can believe that they are saving my soul...that's all they want anyway...meanwhile I will be trumpeting their causes in the most extreme way...

Make people feel like they being ruled and not led.

23. I agree
I know it sounds cynical, but....maybe we should "out right-wing" them. When they push for more tax cuts, demand they go even further. No taxes for anybody! No salaries for pres., congress, judges. Introduce a real bill "protecting the sanctity of marriage" and make divorce illegal. Any woman not married and pregnant should be thrown in jail. Repeal social security completely. I could go on and on.

Now they've got it all. If anything goes wrong--it's their fault. Will they pull together or turn on each other?

24. Check this out
This scared the hell out of me as soon as I saw those kids standing on the street corners and a van dropping them off in neighborhoods to canvass/lit drop for Dubya.

They are call Generation Joshua and it is absolutely bizarre that the repubs can mobilize JR High aged kids to do their bidding.

Also note in the article, that the kids were FORBIDDEN to talk to the press!

29. it's still about the media
in my opinion. The agenda may be fundie, but the people voting for them aren't all religious nuts - my 2 bros and sister voted for * and they are NOT fundies - they rarely/never go to church. but they do listen to talk radio, watch fox, etc and mimic the talking points they hear, and I mean, they really believe them. I don't think they have an actual clue of the nature of the beast that they've voted for. I'm really not sure why they've gone that way - I guess 9/11 had something to do with it. I have read that people seek security in authoritarianism when they're scared, and that looks to be the way we're going.

But maybe if we can at least partially take back the media there's some hope - I think one of the things that's impressed me most and given me most hope since I've been coming here (not long) is the way that we proved with sinclair that we could at least moderate the agenda. We didn't get them to back all the way down, but I think it was a start. Hit em where it hurts, in the wallet. They can't make us buy their crap after all.

31. Take back Jesus?
I remember reading a small article years ago that right wing Christians had a stealth, long term plan starting at low level government. I remember when they took over the local school board. It has crept up through the local, state and now completely control our National government. I always hoped that if they could see a true portrayal of Jesus that may help, Jesus was a liberal. The more I see of these groups I know for sure they are just political organizations using Jesus as their stepping stone.
