Please allow me to vent a bit
As a Democrat it has always been a core part of my belief to be compassionate and caring about the lives of all people, Americans and people in need in other countries. Something has died in me with this election. Why should I care about those who don't care enough about themselves and their livelihood and general well being to vote for someone who cares about them and can help them and instead vote for someone because of their perceived "values". If all they care about is their "values" let them live with their fate with no compassion from me.

The next person who wants to tell me their sad story about their job being shipped overseas or they can't afford to be sick or they just found out their son/daughter is gay and is being treated as a leper, or even that their son/daughter has been killed in an unnecessary war, I will stop them in mid sentence and ask them "Did you vote for Bush?". I will require an answer before listening to the rest of their plight. If they say Bush, my response will be "Fuck you. You screwed yourself, deal with it. It's your fault."

This attitude is so contrary to who I am that it scares me that I feel this way. Being a fiscally responsible, socially liberal Democrat in a Red southern state I would imagine I will be telling quite a few people to "Go fuck themselves".

2. I believe the proper response is to tell them "get over it".

3. I completely understand your feeling, but
feelings are especially raw today and may be for some time to come.

I really like your idea, but thought you could alter your response a little and MAYBE win these people over so they won't make the same mistake again.

We've all known for some time that a hallmark of RWers is that they have little empathy. Once a problem hits home, though, it becomes more important than any other. So you're catching them at that time.

What if you said something like, "Do you see any connection between your vote and what is now happening?" If the answer is no, you can either walk away or tell them what you planned! But if, just if, they sit back and think for the first time, you may have opened their eyes rather than just pissing them off.

10. I understand your rational suggestion but
What you are suggesting is just what I have been doing for 4 years. Trust me after you show them compassion for whatever they are going through and try to subtly make the connection for them nothing changes. We are not speaking about rational people in a majority of cases. When dealing with the religious base who put their faith in God, who would not give them more than they can bear, etc. there is no rationality involved.

4. Exactally, i've been doing it for years.
It seems like Americans want to dig their own grave, untill their ignorance destroys them. Under this president things will get rough, people will learn, and hopefully we won't ever have to go this route again. Buy gold and euros, keep some us currency, the storm is beginning.

5. I'm afraid that I won't be able to tolerate any whining...
...or complaining or bitching or moaning from anyone who voted for Bush. Or anyone who didn't vote. Not ever again. I will ask the same question: "did you vote for Bush?" And when they tell me 'yes,' or 'no, I didn't bother to vote," I will give them a Kleenex and turn and walk away.

6. I Will Say The Same Thing
To the people I know who get drafted after voting for Bush (when I told them that would happen).

Right next to Bush's name on the ballot it should have also said, "When drafted, I prefer to go to:
{ } Iraq
{ } Iran
{ } Syria
{ } To Be Determined

7. Amen. I live in Texas and have been dealing with gloating Repubs
all morning. My response? "It's your country too. We're all in the same boat. But don't hate me when I say I told you so."

All the same, I believe the fight ain't over yet. Count the votes!

8. I know exactly how you feel.
After what we've all been through the last 4 years (and watching the travesty last night), it will give me a small measure of satisfaction to tell these people off.

These selfish assholes absolutely will not SEE what is right in front of them until it hits them square in their own families or their own pocketbooks.

Being a fiscally responsible, socially liberal Democrat in a Red southern state I would imagine I will be telling quite a few people to do exactly the same thing.

...I actually have a similar post that begins My mom and dad. When Osama hits again, I am going to put a bumper sticker on my car a la Watergate that says, Don't blame me, I voted for Kerry.

11. YES! Fucktards voted against their self interest then to hell with
them. I hope the unemployment lines swell with their numbers, that their daughters get illegal abortions, that they lose their health care, in short, that they find their Armageddon.
As for the rest of us, Heaven help us (and that's just a saying cuz I sure as shit don't believe in a higher power)

12. it seems we will dig our own graves with high minded principles
i don't know what to do about it as of yet...the shock of this all has left me numb and i feel like i needs some time to get over it...somewhat like a failed relationship...one wants to withdrawal and be alone for awhile...even if we know its not good to wallow in self-pitt, we do it any ways?

13. I would extend that a little ways.
I would ask them who they voted for and if it's anyone other than Kerry, including "didn't vote" then it's the same response. "Fuck you. You screwed yourself, deal with it. It's your fault."

People in this country need to learn something about taking personal responsibility and accepting the consequences for the choices they make.
