Donna Brazile for DNC chair
Ok, new thread. Does anyone else want Donna Brazile for head of the DNC? I think with her we can avoid the liberal-centrist dichotomy. I don't believe those labels apply to contemporary politics anyway. They are the remnants of a cold war paradigm.
Brazile has a depth of experience with campaigns, strategy, and grass roots organizing that neither Dean nor Vilsak can match. Those guys are great contenders for public office, don't get me wrong. I supported Dean in the Dem primary, but for DNC chair, I like Brazile.

Wouldn't it be better to have Dean in the Whitehouse?

37. I disagree based on the Bob Dole model
In 1971, President Nixon, asked him to use his skills and talent as the Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Dole served in that position for two years.

Despite the pressures of being RNC Chairman during the early period of the Watergate scandal, Dole was unflappable and served his party and his president faithfully.

Dole's cool grace under pressure at the RNC, and his strong record of leadership on Capitol Hill prompted President Gerald Ford in 1976 to pick Bob Dole as his running mate.

43. I believe one signs a 4-year contract. Although if the sitting president
wants you as his running mate, I guess that can be waived.

As I've said before, she is inarticulate, dull, and gets walked all over everytime she gets on TV. Bay Buchanan, when I used to watch CNN, would chew Brazille up and spit her out. I like Howard Dean.

25. I thought it was a job for party organizers rather than politicians

She's meant to be awesome at grassroots efforts. She turned out greater margins for Gore in Florida than we did for Kerry, despite the tremendous efforts here this year. And she has a feel for the middle of the country--and we won't win if we again if we don't tap into that.
Didn't realize I'd hit such a nerve. It's not like I suggested Joe Lieberman or something. I think of her as a strategist and organizer rather than advancing a particular ideological direction for the party. She's gotten where she is through sheer hard work, not through family connections or wealth. Imagine the obstacles she faces as an African American woman from Louisiana rising to the level of running a national presidential campaign. I admire her.
The fund-raising point is probably a good one. I realize it's crucial to the party. Of course Terry McAuliffe is great at fund-raising, and he's a complete sleaze.

36. Sorry, But The Rove Connection
is too big a strike against her. And in her one on ones with Bay Buchanan, she didn't do enough of a good job of holding her own (imho). We need a strong advocate for the democratic party, one who can vocalize the stance and beliefs of those who support the majority of the party, and not those to the right of it.

The subject of Brazile has been a dicey one these last weeks. especially because of her admiration for Rove. It's hard to trust anyone who is holding hands with the likes of him.

38. Rove got the worst president in US history reelected.
There is no question the man is brilliant at political strategy. He's also ruthless, perhaps even demonic. But If we had him on our side we'd be in the White house. I'm a long-time leftist who only decided to become active (besides voting) in Democratic politics during the Bush administration. Bush knocked some sense in my head. Ideological purity has made us a losing party. Strategy and skill is key. Perhaps Brazile doesn't have it, but to dismiss her because she admires Karl Rove's abilities doesn't make sense to me.
He got the worst president in US history reelected. That's not a minor achievement. He began get out the vote efforts FOUR years ago. He runs that campaign like a finely tuned watch. With that kind of discipline and skill, we'd be invincible.

We need somebody with BIG IDEAS! Somebody who will shake things up. Somebody who will put some spine back into the party. Someone with a galvanizing personality who will be able to rally the troops. Donna Brazille is not capable of these things. Howard Dean and or Simon Rosenberg.
