Boxer, Dean's spirit take center stage
California senator announces run for third term; former Vermont governor receives ringing endorsements to be elected president this year

By Josh Richman, STAFF WRITER

SAN JOSE -- U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer and presidential contender Howard Dean -- the former thronged by admiring supporters, the latter locked in a political bloodbath more than a thousand miles away -- seemed the most popular figures at the state Democratic Party's convention Saturday.

Boxer got the most enthusiastic welcome of anyone who has come before the delegates this weekend as she touted her run for a third term. Several Republicans are vying for the right to challenge her in November.

"Make no mistake -- the far right is coming after me," Boxer warned delegates, adding she doesn't fear conservative criticisms. And Dean -- busy with last-minute campaigning before Monday night's influential Iowa caucuses -- seemed present in spirit as Attorney General Bill Lockyer and Secretary of State Kevin Shelley announced their endorsements of him, bringing forth a blizzard of "Dean for America" signs from the cheering delegates.

Lockyer castigated what he said are Bush administration attacks upon California: raids on medical marijuana patients and providers, civil rights infringements under the USA Patriot Act, lousy forest policies and so forth. President Bush "needs to have his butt kicked around the block" by a truth-teller, Lockyer said, and that person is Dean.

4. Dean/Boxer would be a great ticket.
Well, one can dream. Or, just as good, Dean/Murray. Though I would hate lose her as my senator.

6. Hillary Clinton also used that phrase
"Make no mistake about it, this election is not about me or about any Republican opponent. It is about the people of New York, and the common mission that we are pledged to."

7. make no meme stake
"No, I don't. My management style is that I set the goals, make no mistake about it. They understand where I want to go. I hold people accountable. But I trust them."
http://www.time.com/time/pacific/magazine/20001225/poy_int3.html

"But make no mistake about it: This administration has got a firm goal and a determination to achieve the goal, and that is to rally the world toward a campaign to find terrorists, to smoke them out of their holes, and to get them, and to bring them to justice."
http://usembassy-australia.state.gov/hyper/2001/0919/epf304.htm

"Make no mistake about it - the entire world is being convulsed by a religious struggle. The fight is not about money or territory; it is not about poverty versus wealth; it is not about ancient customs versus modernity... No - the struggle is whether... Allah, is Supreme, or whether the Judeo-Christian Jehovah God of the Bible is Supreme."

"Make no mistake," Trippi said. "We intend to win every one of states, and we believe the Dean campaign is the only campaign strong enough to do that."
