Sharpton, Clark call for removal of Confederate flag
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Democratic presidential hopefuls Wesley Clark and Al Sharpton called for the removal of the Confederate flag from Statehouse grounds as they rallied about 2,000 people gathered Monday to honor the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

"This is not a day that you wave a flag of Confederacy and wave a flag of racism," Sharpton said.

3. Watch out! Clark may alienate those that think the Confederate flag...
is a symbol of their historical southern culture and expression.

21. This Southern white boy says who cares, I strongly doubt those who have
the "Confederate flag is their heritage" as their make or break issue are going to be voting Democrat, no matter who is the candidate.

8. That's my guy
"That flag belongs in a museum. It is a flag of the past."

Called up veterans in the audience to join him under "the American flag."

Clark will not hedge his principles to get a few extra white votes. That's what REPUBLICANS and weak-kneed Democratic politicians do.

14. I want to say that I'm white and a southerner, and very much a
Civil War buff, but that damn Flag needs to come down. Period...
There's no need for it, it just re-addresses a terrible period in American History. I stand 100% behind Clark on this issue. It needs to go!

Howard Dean.

13. Good for them! All of the candidates should do the same.
Clark just rose a notch in my estimation though I'm a Dean supporter.

22. Seems like an appropriate statement on an appropriate day.
Good for them.

(Well, actually it should have been done a hundred years
ago, at least, but they weren't alive then. :))
