Do we fit in the Green party better?
Personally i find i fit in the green party better than in the democratic party. I would not vote green for president or anything but i am just wondering if anyone feels the same way about the green party.

5. they certainly don't stand for following the opposition..
in some vain attempt to cater to a base that simply doesn't exist. At the rate your Democratic Party is scurrying to the right, you should have a nice, safe moderate candidate like Pat Buchanan any year now.

7. Why did they receive so much money from Republicans in trying to get
them on the ballot in states, then, this year?

10. Because the Republicans
Edited on Wed Nov-24-04 07:33 PM by Mojambo
recognize that the Green party is becoming a threat to the Democratic party by standing up for liberal interests that the Democrats just don't care about anymore. The Republicans are exploiting the weakness in the Democrats left wing (or what's left of it anyway.)

Instead of getting mad at the Green party, why not get angry at the Democratic party for allowing a weakness that can be exploited by the Republicans?

You're saying the Green party should turn that Republican money down instead of using it to build a TRUE progressive movement? I think you're a bit blinded by party loyalty, friend.

13. If Republicans really thought the Green Party
had any appeal, they wouldn't give them a dime. The Green Party is a gang of useful idiots. Americans have never, and short of a catastrophe of unimaginable proportions -- not even the Depression could do it -- will never embrace the pink kind of socialism the Greens espouse. I'm sure they sit around sipping their lattes, talking about hanging the capitalists with the capitalists' own rope, while in the meantime the capitalists are out running the country and laughing at them.

For the 2000 election alone, giving money to the Greens has been a great investment for the Republicans. What do the Greens have to show for it? Not a damn thing.

14. Enjoy your cynicism
I hope it works out well for you.

I will continue to work for my political ideals no matter how unlikely or futile their ultimate realization may seem.

I'd be careful throwing around blanket statements such as, "America will never..." America is still an infant nation and there is no telling where the crash of capitalism (and there will be one) will take this country.

I'm glad to be serving a movement that could very likely provide a clear and viable alternative when the time comes (even if it is disparaged by people like you.)

19. I don't think you're getting it.
I'm glad to be serving a movement that could very likely provide a clear and viable alternative when the time comes (even if it is disparaged by people like you.)

When will the time come? Under what circumstances do you see the wealthiest and most powerful country the world has ever known, one with a tradition of 230 years of adherance to a conservative brand of liberalism, throw all of that away and decide to embrace socialism?

Work for your ideals. But they aren't mine, they aren't the Democratic Party's, they aren't the country's -- and they simply never will be. And the Republicans thank you for getting out of their way, and in ours, even if they have to throw a few dollars your way to help you out.

Edited on Sat Nov-27-04 08:48 AM by Telly Savalas
I know the GOP financially backed Nader's campaign, but I heard nothing of them supporting the Greens this year.

Edited to add: aw crap, sorry for the redundancy. I missed the message right above this somehow.

37. We got zip from the pukes
Ralph Nader got money from the pukes, the Green Party got zip. Nader was not our candidate, we refused to nominate or endorse him.

Get your facts straight.

I vote for them whenever possible, and with the direction the Democratic party is going, I see myself voting for them even more often.

3. After hearing their VP candidate speak last week
I definitely do! I went to a voting rights rally in D.C. and I was so impressed with Pat (forget her last name). The Greens are fighting for our rights in Ohio, and so are the Libertarians. I wouldn't vote Libertarian, but I respect their guy and his adherence to the Constitution.

4. I vote Green for local offices
whenever I can, because putting people into local office is how we get progressives into the political pipleline.

I may be compelled to vote Green nationally if the Democratic Party doesn't reupudiate the DLC and their habit of dragging the party so far to the right that the base is alienated.

I have been posting about this for a long time. Amerika needs a multi-party system. The Green Party is a viable alternative for progressives, especially on the local levels.

8. My concerns
Edited on Wed Nov-24-04 04:38 PM by lfairban
I have collected a few links about the My Green party

I thought they were only concerned with environmental issues, but they have a platform that addresses a wide variety of issues.

http://www.gp.org/platform/2004/index.html

At a presidential level, there always is that Nader effect for third parties. Until they get large enough to be competitive, they will usually only detract from the party they are most like.

9. That all depends on ...
what the Democratic Party does in the coming months and years. At some point, it has to stand up for its ideals, or it SHOULD be abandoned.

12. I like the Green party, and
I think it could be possible for there to be a Democratic-Green Alliance, where Democrats would support the Green in local races where they aren't feilding serious candidates, and the Greens could support the Democrats in the same way for national elections.

15. You'll see more and more animosity
between the Greens and Democrats as time goes on.

The Democrats will fight ferociously against the Greens because they want to lose as few voters as possible in their gallop to the right.

16. Yeah
I fit the Green Party much better than the Democratic Party, but I'm a pragmatic voter, and I've always been loyal to the Dems. I'll give the Dems another couple of chances to get their shit together, which is quite a lot to give, given that each election cycle is 4 years.

I do NOT want to see another Tom Daschle around, slipping and sliding and bending over backwards to be more obsequious to the Repukes. THAT will drive me away faster than anything. I don't want to vote "Repuke Lite" or Repuke anything. I have seen enough Repukes to last the rest of my life, and I don't want to see any in a party that I've voting for. . .

I wish the US electoral system wasn't rigged to prevent viable third parties. Even if I stuck with the Democrats, I think we would all benefit from strong Green and Libertarian parties.

27. I am a registered Green.
I have voted for the Green party pres. the last three elections. Nader ran the previous two times, and this time it was David Cobb. I'm kinda lucky cuz I live in a state where I have been able to count on the Dem.s winning the electoral votes. I probably would not have done that if I lived in a swing state.

30. Although I'm no green, I think they may be viable.
But they will never win a thing if they concentrate on the U.S. presidency.

They've got to win local elections, instead of losing national elections, if they want to become a force in American politics, IMO.
