What Percentage of Democrats are REAL Democrats.
Edited on Sun Jan-09-05 01:25 AM by indianablue
I mean most of the Democrats in congress are nothing more than Republicans in disguise.

Most preach trickle down economics and tax breaks for the extremely wealthy. If they do not preach it they vote it.

They accept the same loot from the same lobbyists as the Republicans, maybe in a smaller amount only because the lobbyists hand out less to them.

Most Democrats believe in NAFTA, WTO and other anti-labor treaties.

When was the last time a 'Real' Democrat was elected President?

Please do not say Clinton, he was GOP light on most issues.

1. I think we need to start with a description of a "Real" Democrat..
Before we can give a percentage.

Let's start the descriptive list first.

8. Jimmy Carter meets the original poster's criteria of "republican"
Edited on Sun Jan-09-05 01:36 AM by wyldwolf
...if that means engaging in behaviour associated with Republicans... Carter was involved in the recruiting of Islamic fundamentalists, who later became Al Queda, to engage in a "Jihad" against the "atheistic communist regime" in Afghanistan.

Name me one who you think isn't and I'll point out why he/she is a Repub based on your criteria.

7. Then they all are ...
Most have helped or stood by while the GOP continues to dismantle the New Deal.

They for the most part have betrayed Labor in this country. Not to the degree the GOP has but did little or nothing to stop them.

13. What are you searching for?
It's like prove the GOP are fiscally responsible and want to be Christian and help the least among us. There's always two sides to a story.

That being said, the democrats have NEVER destroyed and occupied a country who was never a threat to us. Bush's pre-emptive strike policy is against Christ's Golden Rule but the GOP claim Christianity as their own.

Democrats reached out for peace.

12. What is a "real" democrat?
Edited on Sun Jan-09-05 01:40 AM by Placebo
I'm afraid you'll have to define it in greater detail. And this "Being a republican in disguist...and like Clinton..." crap ain't gonna cut it.

I'd like to see where the lot of you would be without Clinton, I really would. Serves you people right, biting the hand that fed you.

18. it is difficult to find anything wrong with Wellstone
...but if one is searching for some sort of purity on every issue, as the original poster seems to be suggesting, even Wellstone will fall short.

16. Most politicians just want to get re-elected
So yeah, the Dems in congress DO seem to be conservative. And so do the Democratic presidents. What they're trying to do is to govern the middle, because most Americans would describe themselves as middle-of-the-road. So the voters are in large part to blame for this rightward drift. (Of course, the voters have been egged on by a conservative media, but I won't go into that) This drift to the right has been many years in the making, and has now reached full fruition. George W. is the only president in our history who has been so utterly ideological that he doesn't know the word "compromise". In these extreme circumstances, the Dems strategy of appeasement looks more like complicity, and it seems to have taken them an abnormally long time to realize that we are now playing by a completely different set of rules. There are quite a few who probably STILL don't get it, but I think the tide is beginning to turn. I hope it's not too late.

19. :) i figured I would get harrased....
I can not call someone a Democrat if they are anti-labor, I consider NAFTA and other policies as anti-labor.

I can not call someone who doe snot defend people rights a Democrat either.

I think you have to have both to be a Democrat.

20. Ah Bush is out of control fiscally
and has violated every fiscally responsible situation. His only cuts are for domestic spending such as Veterans. Bush took a hard right on meanness and introduced reckless spending to a new level.
Our kids and grandkids will pay for his reckless right wing spending.
