Death toll at 2.5 MILLION and climbing!!
No... not in Asia-- in Rwanda. The media won't cover it, but there is a new movie out now that does: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0395169/

4. Failure to comprehend massive humanitarian chaos
"Shake Hands With the Devil" by Romeo Dallaire is a book that deals directly with the cold shoulder that the world presented to Rwanda at the beginning of this crisis. Maybe if you read that you would understand that it is not something to take lightly. The tone of your post is apathetic, which is precisely the problem. The west feels the same way you do and that is what perpetuates these age old problems.

2. Truly the silent holocaust that continues to be smothered
by the MSM. I plan to see this movie. Perhaps because it is getting great reviews, this issue will get SOME attention.

3. movie is Hotel Rwanda
I remember when I first heard about the horror, it was from an appeal in the mail from Doctors Without Borders. The MSM was not covering the story and I didn't have a computer at the time. Doctors Without Borders was desperately and frantically trying to ring alarms to the world that this was happening. This was before they won the Nobel and they didn't have the influence they have now. They were just a little organization that was the conscience of the world at that time.

5. That's just the toll in one country in Africa
Edited on Sun Jan-09-05 10:22 AM by DoYouEverWonder
there are so many others.

Did you hear that 200 Somalians died in the tsunami? The wave took 8 hours to get there and no one bothered to warn them.

To the fundie cult that follows Bush, these people do not count or matter. They don't believe in Jesus so they're all damned anyway. Besides they have all of our oil, gold and diamonds that god put under their continent.

6. Sadly, I believe

there is a similar figure of people of both sexes, young and old, suffering the living death of homelessness in the US - possibly just California. Death by machete must be terrible, but I suspect I might prefer it after a brief spell of homelessness during the winter.

And proportionately, there would be a similar picture in the UK, although without one tenth of the excuse for it.
