OMFG. NYT transcript of Rice hearings OMITS her "tsunami helped US image"
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 12:57 PM by JohnOneillsMemory
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/18/politics/18TEXT-RICE.html?pagewanted=print&position=

On Pacifica Radio I just heard the audio of the Sen. Voinovitch question about how much the world hates the US now and what Rice is going to do about it.

Rice responded that "the tsunami had been a wonderful opportunity...('to show how much love the US spreads')..."and we have reaped the benefits..."

A terribly PR gaff from a woman who is supposed to be the Lead Sales Woman for the Empire!! Mainly because it was accidently THE TRUTH.

While Boxer's reference to it as the next Senator questioning was in the transcript, the question by Voinovitch AND Rice's DAMNING RESPONSE IS MISSING FROM THE TRANSCRIPT!!

The transcript is what Senators are going to read for the floor debate. Is this in their copy. Is this just for world opinion?

If you have any doubt that the NYT and mainstream media continue to do the bidding of the CIA and White House as they started to during the Cold War under Operation Mockingbird, doubt no more.
http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/RANCHO/POLITICS/MOCK/mockingbird.html
(Operation Mockingbird CIA Controls Media Propaganda)

PACIFA RADIO ALSO POINTED OUT THAT THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH, SUPREME COURT, 60 SENATORS WERE ALL IN ONE PLACE, A NO-NO FOR NATIONAL SECURITY. IS THIS MORE PROOF OF THE 'WAR ON TERROR' SCAM?

1. What the hell is going on? I just opened this thread about Delay's
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 12:59 PM by Pirate Smile
rant on January 6th being edited out of the transcript also.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x301066

I'm starting a new thread about this, because I think it's that important. Larry Bensky on KPFA just heard from a caller who told him she tried to find Tom Delay's particularly virulent rant against the Democrats and Boxer from the 1/6/05 Ohio electorate challenge, but it is not in the official transcript. Bensky answered that members of the House and Senate can edit the transcript before it is released to the public? Does anyone know if this is true?

JoMama

:wtf:

edit to add - I heard Condi say it live on C-span. I figured it was going to be replayed all around the world. I was very glad when Boxer slammed her on it. Geez, a person who says that is going to be the head of US diplomacy. We are F#$ked!

13. The SCREW YORK TIMES and WHORESHINGTON POST blow Bush 24/7
the only reason I waste any time with the Screw York Times is to read Dr. Krugman. The rest of the paper isn't fit for the bottom of a birdcage.

And, when the WHORESHINGTON POST boasts about giving $100,000 to the coronation, well, they prove they whore for the Nazis 24/7

Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 01:07 PM by lwfern
I'm going to copy the times transcript in all one file with the pages marked, and toss it online ina few minutes here - I'm curious if that's the only part that's been changed.

edit: I mean copy it all to one page, so we can search on it easier.

no wonder they had to edit the transcript.

10. Tom Delay's Orwellian rant "what if, God forbid, an election IS robbed?"
1/6/05 Electoral protest by Boxer elicited these bizarre words from Tom Delay:

"This is not a normal debate. This is a direct attack to undermine our democracy by using a procedure to undermine the constitutional election that was just held.

If, as now appears likely, Democrats cry fraud and corruption every election regardless of the evidence,

>>>>>>>> what will happen when one day voters are routinely intimidated, rights are denied, or, God forbid, an election is robbed? What will happen? <<<<<<<

What will happen when, God forbid, this quadrennial crying wolf so poisons our democratic processes that a similarly frivolous petition in a close election in the future is actually successful, and the American people are denied their constitutional right to choose their own President?

Mr. Speaker, Democrats must find a way to rise above this self-destructive and, yes, plain destructive theory of politics for its own sake. A dangerous precedent is being set here today, and it needs to be curbed, because Democrat leaders are not just hurting themselves. By their irresponsible tactics, they hurt the House, they hurt the Nation, and they hurt rank-and-file Democrats at kitchen tables all around this country.

The American people, and their ancestors who invented our miraculous system of government, deserve better than this. This petition is beneath us, Mr. Speaker; but, more importantly, it is beneath the men and women that we serve."

11. I've got the full NYT transcript up on one page
http://ideamouth.com/redtapes.htm

If anyone wants to transcribe what's missing or changed, or if they have the original uncut version, it would be nice to get that added in, and marked.

Maybe we need a NYT watch website, where we each take a portion of their transcripts, read as we listen to the audio, and put them all online with the deleted parts marked in red? One person can't do all the checking, but 40 DU'ers checking this transcript could have it knocked out in 10 or 15 minutes, no?

15. I want to see the official Congressional record transcript. Another issue>
I also recall during the Condi hearings hearing a Senator point out that the Senate got verbal briefings on all the WMD bullshitting that left out the doubts by much of CIA that ANY of it was true!!

The Senator asked Condi if as SOS she would give COMPLETE briefings that included the doubts and qualifications. She said she would..HA!

Is this in the transcript? The Emperor and his henchmen kept saying that Congress has the SAME evidence for going into war that they had.

And this was shown to be FALSE in a public hearing.

I'm going to read this whole thing again to find out...

"And if you're going to become the voice of diplomacy, this is just a helpful point. When Senator Voinovich mentioned the issue of tsunami relief, you said -- your first words were The tsunami was a wonderful opportunity for us."

(It's about 60% of the way down the page)

VOINOVICH: Well, it's, as I say, a high priority, the money.

I also, as you know, feel that our best offense against terrorism is intelligence, diplomacy and something that Bobby Burns once talked to, and that is, "Oh, that some great power would give me the wisdom to see myself as other people see me."

And I also attended a CODEL. And we were in England, and we were in Southeast Europe, and then at the NATO meeting in Venice. And I was just shocked at what I got back from our friends about how badly we're thought of today in that part of the world.

And I just wonder, what are you going to do to try and change that?

I think what we're doing in the tsunami right now is wonderful. I think it's -- but we have got to show people that we love them, that we are for democracy, that we want them to enjoy the same thing but we haven't any hidden motives.

What are you planning on doing in that area to respond to that?

RICE: Senator, first of all, I do agree that the tsunami was a wonderful opportunity to show not just the U.S. government, but the heart of the American people. And I think it has paid great dividends for us.

Sometimes what happens is that we've had to ask people to do very difficult things and we've had policies that people don't like.

I think in some corners there are people who've been unhappy with the way that we've dealt with the Middle East, with the strong support for Israel, with our strong belief that terrorism has got to stop there.

But we somehow have to get the message out that this is also the first president to call, as a matter of policy, for a Palestinian state, and somehow we're not getting that message out as well.

What I plan to do is that I'm going to put a major emphasis on public diplomacy in all of its forms. That means in getting our message out.

And public diplomacy really is the State Department's core -- a State Department responsibility. The State Department has to take on this challenge. Because public diplomacy isn't done here in Washington. Public diplomacy is done in London or done in Amman or done in Riyadh.

And so, the arms and legs of the public diplomacy effort are our embassies out there and our ambassadors and what they do on a daily basis.

And so I think we have to have a new, renewed effort on that piece of it, getting our message out.

We also have to have a new, renewed effort on getting our people back and forth. Because people, when they come to the United States and see who we are and can get past some of the filter of perhaps some of the sides of America that are not well-liked or respected, I think do come away with a different view of us.

And so I will have a strong emphasis on getting our message out, on getting the truth to people, on diminishing the -- on doing something to mitigate against the propaganda that's out there against us, but also on going to our long-time partners and friends, and saying, "We have a common purpose here, a great cause ahead of us."

And the trans-Atlantic alliance, you know, sometimes it's a little bit like whatever it was that Mark Twain said about Wagner's music. I think he said it's better than it sounds.

Well, in fact, our trans-Atlantic alliances are really better than people give us credit for. We're cooperating in a lot of places. We're working hard together in a lot of places. We've had a lot of successes.

But we can do more in this period of tremendous opportunity to unify the great democracies, the great alliances for a push to spread freedom and liberty.

I think it's an agenda that is inspiring. And I think we've done a lot already, but there is much more that we can do.

VOINOVICH: Thank you.

24. That's the gaff the NYT ommitted. Maybe Chalabi asked them to
since the NYT carried all his false WMD claims that helped start the invasion of Iraq.

I just heard NPR's 'On the Media' discuss Novak's years of impunity and the history of the US media culture of promoting the status quo...

...without one mention of CIA control through Operation Mockingbird.

Such a deafening silence.

22. If the OFFICIAL transcript has been altered, then I hope Boxer & Kerry....
....bring this up on the Senate floor. I certainly don't expect Biden or Dodd, or whoever else voted FOR the wench to do so.

On the other hand if it's only the Times that altered the facts, then I hope they get a wrath of shit that makes the Jayson Blair episode seem like a Mormon church picnic by comparison.

26. Book-marked. Very important post re NYT- an enabler of Conspiracies. TY!

Never mind what your ears heard or your mind saw. We are imagining things and they are setting the record "fix" for history so that in 6 months people will be able to argue "she never said that" and when asked for a link, will triumphantly pull out this transcript. They are trying to rewrite history in front of our lying eyes. Weep for the historians. I am grateful that there are organs like DU where we can straighten out the record and leave witness that that was not what happened.

I am book-marking this post for the next time the NYT is pulled out as a left-leaning authority.
