Who are the Democrats you wish you'd hear more from?
I mean the ones who you think do it right but for some reason you hardly ever hear from 'em.

Here's some I wish I'd see more of...

Roberty Byrd (a powerful speaker, a link to our past)
Chris Dodd (I heard him tear apart Hannity once, the guy's a pit bull)
Jennifer Granholm (polished, professional, and tough)
Carl Levin (there's something just stalwart and trust worthy about him)
Barack Obama (yeah he's new, but he's a star)

1. I love Carl Levin...He's the best.
Jennifer Granholm had my support, and still does, but she's a DLC sellout... She'll have a tough time this election. :(

2. I would love to hear more non DLC Democrats
Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 11:37 PM by Warpy
I would love to see Soros or someone like him funding liberal think tanks the way Scaife did right wing ones starting 30 years ago, so that we'd have a "stable" of experts to shop around to television talk shows the way they do. They've been very, very effective at this, and it's something that is way past time for us to do.

I sincerely hope Dr. Dean is able to break the stranglehold the DLC has had on party politics so that we can get some of this done.

Right now, all they have are a few tepid elected officials to choose from, which is why right wingers dominate all the Sunday gasbag shows, not to mention cable shows. We have effectively been shut out, simply because tepid liberals and Repuglican lite DLC types who appeal only to yuppies are boring.

We need access, and this is how to get it. I sincerely hope someone is listening...

3. Speaking of Byrd
I'm pretty sure they said he asked for an hour tomorrow during the gondolass hearings. Should be interesting.

9. Feingold does rock
I do disagree with you on his Rice vote. She is qualified. Feingold is an honest man who takes the constitution seriously. The citizens of WI are a discerning crowd.

12. Disagree with you that she's qualified, not on his vote however
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 12:12 AM by Hippo_Tron
Rice sucks and I know that as Secretary of State she will continue to spit out the lies of the administration like she did as National Security Advisor. All of that aside, Bush is President, and the President should be allowed to pick his cabinet because they are the people that are directly subordinate to him.

Alberto Gonzales, I believe, is an exception because he has clearly advised people to BREAK the law, something that I think is inappropriate for a man to serve as Attorney General. Also, the Attorney General is the one job of the top cabinet officials that really effects the country without the direction of the President. Perhaps there should be a seperate position for Attorney General and Secretary of Justice but the fact is that the Attorney General currently serves both roles.

13. Agree re: Gonzales
While he is qualified in the narrow sense, the torture thing is troubling. What I don't know is the role of the White House counselor, i.e., is he just Bush's attorney, or is there a more more formal role.

I'm not sure that Gonzales advised anyone to break the the law. He gave his opinion as to what the law is. That's an important distinction.

Condi is certainly qualified for her positition however. Hopefully we can agree to disagree on her.

11. Definitely Levin - he's so sincere-sounding and level-headed
Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 11:57 PM by moggie12
Also, Evan Bayh, Russ Feingold, Jerry Nadler (NY congressman), Dorgan, Mary Landreiu (sp?), and there's some Arkansas Dem woman Senator named Blanche Lincoln they keep hidden away -- I'd like to hear her so I can figure out what's wrong with her (there must be something, right?)-- she won re-election with 56% of the vote, whereas Kerry lost the state (45%).

And come to think of it, who's this Akaka guy in Alaska?? -- I'd never heard of him until he voted against Rice.

Hey, maybe they're hiding some real good Dems from us!

All Progressive Democrats who eschew much of the "establishment" in Washington to stick up for the concerns of their "ordinary American" constituents.
