What I don't get about SS private accounts
isn't it MY money? Why does the government get to dictate what I do with it?

3. You were assigned a SS#
and became part of that system.

Remember the militia movement? Part of their point was that they were "sovereign citizens" of their respective states governing themselves under common law and that the U.S. government was an illegitimate corporation operating under the Uniform Commercial Code.

They didn't believe in any part of the "system" out of D.C. They have voluminous arguments as to why the current setup is unconstitutional.

It does seem to be true that one voluntarily agrees to become part of that system by filing tax returns and signing various federal tax forms year after year. Whether it is constitutional or not is more or less irrelevant anymore. That's true of any number of issues that 100 years ago would have been seriously challenged on constitutional grounds.

This is all very complicated, but there have been "tax protesters" for years of one variety or another, mainly from those of the conservative/libertarian philosophy.
