Tories attack 'sinister tactics'
"Sinister and underhand tactics" in the run-up to the election, inspired by an executive counselor to the head of state....sound familiar? Rove? Nope, the return of Alastair Campbell.

Tories attack 'sinister tactics'

The Tories claim Labour are using "sinister and underhand tactics" in the run-up to the election, inspired by ex-No 10 communications director Alastair Campbell. The charge from party co-chairman Liam Fox followed rows over the "flying pigs" poster, which Mr Campbell has conceded was his idea.

He was also said to have provided the inspiration for another controversial poster which some claimed portrayed Tory leader Michael Howard as Fagin. It was also revealed last night that Mr Campbell had sent an email by mistake to BBC 2's Newsnight programme which contained his brief on how to reply to their queries on the posters.

Dr Fox said: "The return of Alastair Campbell shows Tony Blair has reverted straight back to his old ways of spin and dirty tricks.
"The most sinister and underhand tactics can nearly always be linked back to his former director of communications.

"The cheap and negative poster campaign, that Alastair Campbell devised, shows that Tony Blair has learnt nothing, and is out of touch with the concerns of the people of this country." There was no immediate comment from Labour.
