Rove to GOP: Don't Grow 'Tired or Timid'

Rove to GOP: Don't Grow 'Tired or Timid'

..........pronounced conservatism the "dominant political creed in America" and coached fellow conservatives on how to support his boss.

"The next time one of your smarty-pants liberal friends says to you, `Well, he didn't have a mandate,'

you tell him of this delicious fact: This president got a higher percentage of the vote than any Democratic candidate for president since 1964," Rove said.

In 2004, Bush was re-elected with about 51 percent of the vote. In 1976, Jimmy Carter received just over 50 percent and in the two times Bill Clinton (news - web sites) was elected, he received under 50 percent of the vote; Independent Ross Perot (news - web sites) was on the ballot both times.

Bush is the first president since Franklin Roosevelt to be re-elected while his party gained seats in the House and Senate, Rove continued.

But he also cautioned his conservative supporters that they must not become complacent with the 2004 victory.

"Republicans cannot grow tired or timid," he said.

"Conservatism is the dominant political creed in America," Rove said, adding that more needed to be done.

"Those who oppose this agenda are in a difficult position," Rove said. "They're attempting to block reforms to systems that almost every serious-minded person concedes need reform. ... That's not a good place to be in American politics."

3. Rove handing out the Kool-Aid!
It always pisses me off when anyone uses BS phrases like "every serious-minded person". You are instantly "not serious" if you have the temerity to disagree what with a-hole speaker. O'Shirll uses this speaking technique all the time.

It a twist on "You either agree with more you are an asshole, don't you agree?"

6. Also forgot to mention Bush's approval rating
is lowest among 2nd term presidents coming out of the election. I am not sure Bush's approval rating would suggest a "mandate"

7. Rove desperately needs to project an aura of power
The truth is President Bush is pissing away his political capital supporting an unpopular plan to phase out Social Security. Rove is worried that the people are going to notice that the Clothes have no President.

8. Sure sounds like the GOP is getting "tired" and "complacent"
Otherwise they wouldn't need the pep talk!

I love it!

10. "conservatism is the dominant political creed in America"
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 03:17 PM by Gonnabuymeagun
not neccessarily the most well liked or popular, but certainly dominant.

"The next time one of your smarty-pants liberal friends"

smarty-pants, huh? Just demonstrates the third grade mentality of conservatism.

note to Karl, if you're going to "reform" a program it should actually work *better* after the "reform" than before it. You might want to add that to your playbook if you want "serious minded" people to take you seriously.

11. Best at some other stuff
In the last election, they did the "best" job of voter intimidation, dirty tricks including not enough voting machines in Democratic precincts to name just one of hundreds if not thousands.

Bar none. Given the history of dirty tricks a la Nixon, given a sordid history of "literacy" tests and other ways to disenfranchise minorities, that is saying a lot.

They also for the first time were able to have political associates and supporters manufacture the voting machines, leaving open an enormous gaping hole for manipulating thousands of votes at a time - the Diebold GEMS Central Tabulator.

When you put all of the above together, what an achievement!

The villain on a McGuiver rerun recently said, "Evil doesn't fight fair, so evil always wins."

There is _some_ truth in that.

15. What this says to me is
that we're making some serious headway in terms of public opinion and people are finally waking up and smelling the bullshit. This is damage control, pure and simple. Rove wouldn't be out rallying the troops unless there was a need for it. Looks to me like the * camp is experiencing a mass exodus of supporters because his second term agenda is going over like a fart in church!
