So, Are Debtor's Prisons Next?
Edited on Sun Mar-13-05 01:05 AM by Dinger
Just asking. Helluva way to get some more cheap labor - won't even have to outsource! They better start building prisons, 24-7, and they better be big too.

1. And then "indentured servants." As Chris Rock said, "Man wouldn't pay you
unless he had too!" Maybe we'll have a pyramid scheme for indentured servitude...you line up a bunch of "servants" and then rent them out like a labor contractor. No BS from them, no back-talk, and no NLRB (if we even have one anymore). This is beyond pathetic. Oh, I have it, you can run your Debtor's Prisons with my indentured servants, at a tidy profit. Let's call it Shawshank!

3. Speaking Of Chris Rock . . .
was there some controversy about him at the Oscars? (I didn't watch, but I heard - from a reliable source . . . my mom.)

Which was nothing.

13. He kept jabbing at Bush and the whole attitude about gays and
Sponge Bob. Robin Williams has a 5 minute bit before he introduced someone and they asked him to change his bit because he made fun of the guy who said Sponge Bob was gay....he got it in anyway.

Chris Rock said he wasn't going to bash Bush then went on to tell everything stupid he had done. It was very entertaining.

2. The poor will just commit suicide now.
Previously creditors were shy about placing garnishments because garnishing the wages of someone poor generally meant they couldnt pay the rent, and bankruptcy soon followed.

Now the poor will face permanent garnishment, which means they will be unemployable. No ability to pay the rent, no place to live, no job, no hope, no ability to start over and make good.

Suicide will be the only way out for a whole new class of debtor.

6. Suicide rates for poor and elderly are rising. BushAmerica at its best!
No need for universal healthcare.

Just jump out a window when your health or your job tanks out.

Thanks Bush!!

8. As Du stated, the U.S. now has indentured servants
because of the bankruptcy bill. We're reverting back to Dickens and Hugo.

10. Yes, It's now respectable under Bush & the GOP
to drive the poor to desperation. But let's keep the tax cuts to the rich.

21. Crime and suicides rates will increase. Especially work-place crime.
As frustration and entropy increases in the work-place, there will be more thefts, assaults, murders, and murder/suicides against employers and work-place authorities. Abusive "bosses" had best watch their "sixes." The age of "fragging" will be back.
