Gallup: Bush Approval Rating Lowest Ever for 2nd-Term Prez at this Point
NEW YORK It's not uncommon to hear or read pundits referring to President George W. Bush as a "popular" leader or even a "very popular" one. Even some of his critics in the press refer to him this way. Perhaps they need to check the latest polls.

President Bush's approval rating has plunged to the lowest level of any president since World War II at this point in his second term, the Gallup Organization reported today.

"All other presidents who were re-elected to a second term had approval ratings well above 50% in the March following their re-election," Gallup reported+

1. His ratings weren't that good BEFORE the election either
I recall figures ranging between 45-55%, abysmal for an incumbent seeking reelection. Voter suppression and Diebold took care of that though, I guess.

6. The Kerry campaign made Bush more popular for a while
Now Bush is back down around where he was last summer.

To say the very least, Kerry was far to polite to Bush.

He wouldn't even call Bush a LIAR, when Bush lies so habitually that he makes Nixon look honest by comparison!

And who told Kerry that HYPOCRITE was a swear word he couldn't use in describing Bush?

2. Joe Stalin had some low approval numbers and it did not hurt him
...Probably for the same reason. Neither had to stand for election.

4. Bush has earned the low ratings. He's earned even lower ratings.
He's a philistine yahoo, a corporate puppet, and when he's not an international bully he's an American embarrassment.

With those numbers, Bush must be causing even some Republicans to re-evaluate their initial loyalty. A President Gore or a President Kerry would not have had those numbers at this point, is my guess, and as an individual citizen, I wouldn't feel so badly about how my nation's foreign policy treats others in the world.

7. Actually, I haven't heard media people refer to him as popular
lately. But they don't call him unpopular either, which is closer to reality.

9. I remember people calling Clinton a "controversial" president
Even though he left office with a near 60% approval rating.

Bush has to blow up NYC to even sniff Clinton's poll numbers.

10. I believe he was in the mid-60s in most polls
Love your last line.
