Y-O-U-'-R-E T-H-R-O-U-G-H.

And you've been through since April 2, when Dick Cheney said in a very rare press conference that he didn't think your remarks about judges were "appropriate." In the Mafia, that's called the kiss of death. In politics, it's called "declaring open season." But wait, you must know that--declaring open season is exactly what you did on those judges!

Anyway, that's why you've been getting a monsoon of bad press since April 2--even from such dependable Repub strongholds as the Washington Post. Now your co-conspirator Abramoff is claiming you knew everything--AND that he has the paper trail to prove it!

But you're not backing down--you're insisting that you have backing and have publicly threatened to withold support from any Repub who doesn't support you. Trent Lott did pretty much the same thing when his remarks about Strom Thurmond got him into trouble. But after enough bad press rained down, it finally dawned on him that when the Oval Office says you're through, YOU'RE THROUGH. Lott had to give up his job to Bill Frist, but he DOES still have one--just in time, he took his bullet and got to survice.

I think it's too late for you to get out of this gracefully, mainly because your ego is a big as the state you represent. You think that because you hold the purse strings, the GOP has no choice but to buck the Bush White House if necessary in order to defend your (dis)honor. Well, Rick Santorum gave you the cold shoulder on Meet The Press this Sunday, and I daresay that's only the beginning. Worst of all, you don't even have the luxury of being able to threaten to take down the party with you--YOU'RE the one who brought it down!

4. Bye bye Tom DeLay
Oh and on Bill Frist even if he still stayed publically with DeLay he's not going to be running for Senate again so I don't know what would've happened with him. But when Dick Cheney sticks up for judges over you then that's telling you something. Only thing I don't get is why did Cheney stick up for the judges? Maybe they didn't want their plan to go that public on the judges and DeLay fucked up.

5. NBC saying Shay is calling for him to step down. One sentence. End
of story.

If this had been Byrd, they'd have been all over it.

7. The Greeks called it "hubris," which means "arrogance unto the gods"
You're right that Cheney said what he did to let DeLay know that he'd fucked up. But the fuckup wasn't that DeLay spoke out against the judges. By also threatening to withold support from his fellow GOP-ers, DeLay displayed arrogance unto "the gods"--Cheney and Rove.

In their eyes, DeLay's threat is act of blatant insuboridnation. If Rove and Cheney allow him to get away with it, THEY'RE through in terms of holding absolute power over the GOP. Allowing a mere mortal to usurp a god is a no-no in any culture--they are always smote down in no uncertain terms. Trent Lott was forced to step down because he became an embarassment to the GOP. DeLay is being forced to step aside because he's trying to take over.

6. Please don't say that this piece of shit represents Texas.....
as the Houston Chronicle has said repeatedly, DeLay has forgotten who his constituents are.

I don't know who owns him but many Texans are as repulsed as the rest of you by this slimy. corrupt bastard.

9. LOL's a good post. Let's hope Eberle indicts him in Texas, too.
I'd hate to think of Delay getting rewarded by having that office on K-Street where he could continue his skullduggery for the next four years and appear on the talk show circuit like Gingrich.

Let's hope he's fighting for his freedom from the jail cell which is waiting with his name on it. :D
