Kos: Could AG Blumenthal challenge Lieberman in Dem primary?
Apparently Ct. State AG Richard Blumenthal is preparing to run for another office other than the one he is currently in, since Dem. State Senator George Jepsen is raising money to run for AG. Blumenthal is apparently being coy, and while some think he is running for Governor, there are those who think that Blumenthal could be convinced to challenge Lieberman in a Democartic primary for the U.S. Senate--especially since Gov. Rall of CT has 80% plus approval ratings.

There is a strong dissent among many Democrats over Lieberman, despite his strong approval ratings (strongest with Republicans, but also has a 65% approval rating with Dems), and in a primary where usually turnout is a huge factor--a well qualified opponent could give Lieberman a run for his money.

3. Please let this be the case.
Lieberman will never withstand a primary challenge.

4. The last CT Primary was poorly attended, but a challenge to Lieberman
and a change of the primary date from August to June could change that.

As far as Blumenthal running against Lieberman in a primary, I seriously doubt that he will. Recently, he was at a function, I think it was a fundraiser, for Lieberman, so I doubt that Blumenthal is thinking of running against Lieberman.

Blumenthal is one of the favorites for CT Gov. Sec. of State Susan Bysiewic, whom my Dem Town Comm unanimously endorsed in March, is officially in the race along with the New Haven mayor. In 2002, Blumenthal was a projected favorite for the Dem nomination. He dragged his feet for months before deciding to run for AG again. This act made it difficult for the Dem nominee, Bill Curry, to raise funds to compete against Rowland. Susan Bysiewic said that she wasn't going to wait for Richard to repeat the same stalling act. She officially entered the gubernatorial race in Oct. 2004 so that she could raise enough money to fight a primary and general election.

6. Repukes must change their party affiliation 6 months prior to the
Dem Primary in order to be eligible to vote in the Dem primary. That goes for Greens, Libertarians, etc., and holds true for Dems wanting to vote in a Repuke primary.

Independents can vote in the Dem Primary, but can't remember if there is a time limit on when they need to declare themselves Democrats. I don't think Indies can vote in both Party's Primaries.
