I'm Proud of the Cross-Candidate Support on DU Recently
I've seen an increasing number of posts along the lines of:
"I'm a supporter of X but I hate the way they went after Clark in the debate."

"I'm a supporter of Y but I'm proud of the way Dean handled the flap over the Iowa speech."

And so forth. Not specific to any one candidate or group of supporters.
All our candidates are under attack from outside. Some of it's fair, but some of it is unjustified and unprofessional.

We need to oppose unfair attacks on ANY candidate. This is the attitude that will win in November, regardless of who the nominee is.

1. Exactly
Bush is the target here for Liberals. We will take him down this year once we unite behind one candidate! I would like to see a "North Eastern Liberal" like Kerry or Dean wipe the floor with him, or se ehim get his ass kicked by a General or lose the South to a one term senator :-)

4. Yeah, it's fairly refreshing to see...
...I think we all need to realize that Bush/Rove and the corporate whore press will attack ANYONE and EVERYONE that opposes them. They are afraid of all opposition, and none of our candidates hold the title of "rove's nightmare" any more so than any other. Let's beat Bush...

5. If a candidate loses, let it be because of his stance on the issues
Not because of some media created feeding frenzy.

We should not be attacking our candidates based on shallowness. A lot of these attacks are hidden under the 'electability' quotient, such as "No one will vote for a guy with a haircut like that."

We are better than that.

We are better than the Republicans who avoid discussing the issues and prefer to serve out pointless platitudes and outright lies.

6. I agree and kudos to this. You beat me to it...
I was going to post something of this nature. The day after the primary was tough and difficult to take on here. But lately there has been a better approach. People who were vocally against Dean now seem to have a bit more sympathy (although there are outliers who still insist on rubbing salt into wounds) and people who were vocally Dean or nobody have at least made overtures to finding out more about why they should support other people who may be the nominee.

Everyone won't be won over but hopefully the hotheads who are continuing to be stubborn and unpragmatic about the process will come around as well.

8. Exactly! ....because the candidate we trash today just may be our nominee
in the general election, and we have then only hurt ourselves. I'm so glad to see the improvement in this regard.

14. Just follow the lead of the candidates in NH
I'm glad to see they stayed focused on the main objective, beating the poo out of Bush.

I am truly undecided about which Democrat I will support at this point. I see most of the candidates as political Power Rangers--each one has his own super "defeat Bush" power. While we have to choose the strongest guy to take the lead, after Boston it is up to all players to work to become a unified Bush beating machine.

OK, that metaphor was a little sillier than I had intended, but I hope you get my point.

11. I would also like to thank admins & mods.
I think their hard work HAS made a difference. And everyone benefits--our candidates and ourselves.

We scare the sh*t out of the opposition when we are united.

12. It's slowly dawning on everyone here:
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 01:56 PM by Cuban_Liberal
It matters little what we think about the particular qualities of Candidate X vs. Candidate Y, or our preference, THEY are going to come after them no matter what. All of our guys have unique strengths and equally-unique weaknesses, but no matter which one is your most or least favorite among them, even the least-favorite is magnitudes of order more-qualified to be President than is Bush.

had to wait until we saw it done to our canidate before we relized just how ugly the media machine was going to get. I'm a multi-canidate supporter now.

18. I like that.
We should be supporting each candidate. I'm glad the candidates yesterday took the same approach. They attacked Bush and not each other. That's what I'd love to see more of! :)
