3. Have seen this before
It is a fairly good list of symptoms, without offering much insight.

The fascist philosophy centers around:

a) Using quick muscular action above all else to maintain order

b) Keeping a strong heirarchical order is always preferable to "resolving problems" for interested parties

c) Society does not exist: There is the family unit, then the tribe, then one's race. All "social structures" such as nationalities or corporations are mere apparitions unless they are closely modeled after "organic" structures with a dictatorial father figure.

The big failure with economics in fascist eyes was that through internationalism and unionism, laissez-faire capitalism had compromised and sullied these "natural" structures resulting in a loss of identity and direction... In this context fascism was seen as a reform movement for both the state and the corporation in hard times, to save people from chaotic laissez-faire individualism and from classless (and therefore faceless) communism.

How do they think about identity...?

Laissez-faire: Identity focuses on wealth of the individual...

Communist: Identity focuses on usefulness to the state...

Fascist: Identity focuses on position in the tribe according to perceived tradition.

6. Mussolini, it would seem, had a few things
to say on the subject. Go figure.

"Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of State and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

"Fascism has taken up an attitude of complete opposition to the doctrines of Liberalism, both in the political field and in the field of economics". -- Benito Mussolini

Fascism = Corporatism. Interesting. FDR said the same thing, BTW, and then he went across the pond and kicked Mussolini's ass. But, I think we oughta cut the Moose-Man a little slack, 'cause according to Tom Ridge he did a lot of good things for that country!
