Is it time for the Dems in congress to just walk out?
After the Nadler thing with the Re-Thugs doing a re-write, what would you say if all the Dems just left Washington. I would congratulate them. Think of all the local constituent good they could do in their own districts, and how the MSM would play it.

Just say next Tuesday everyone with a brain were to just Leave Washington. :o

(for some of the dumber re-thugs we'll just tell them that it was Judgement day, and they didn't make the cut.) hehe ;)

1. Not yet.
But I hope they have that contingency prepared. It would certainly make their point.

9. Every time they do some
outrageious thing it still shocks me. I can't believe they can even think of doing this stuff. And they get away with it because there is no real news media. Yes, a walk out would be a wonderful statement. At the least it would get some attention!

3. They need to time it right and do it for a strategic reason, but yes.
I'm going to plant the idea in my reps' heads.

10. I think so too
What would be the right time though? That would be great if every democratic congressperson, house of represenitive person and senator just walks out and goes home. That would be amazing. That hasn't ever happened before has it?

4. To what purpose?

Article I, Sec. 5:

"Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members, and a Majority of each shall constitute a Quorum to do Business; but a smaller Number may adjourn from day to day, and may be authorized to compel the Attendance of absent Members, in such Manner, and under such Penalties as each House may provide."

As for the MSM, they would play this very badly for Dems.

Senate Dems might, if played very carefully, use such a tactic beneficially in a response to killing the filibuster. But, they could not be away indefinitely without allowing irreperable harm to be done.

This has been tried before. It's not turned out well for those who did it.

6. Think of the killer Bees here in texas
Where enough Demos left so that there was no quorum--it's happened a couple of times, the lat time was just a couple years back.

and why let it play badly. Just point out that The Re-thugs wanted it all there way and we are just giving it to them. --have fun.

7. A quorum ...

The reason I posted the relevant article of the Constitution was to highlight the fact that for purposes of doing business in the US Congress, a simple majority constitutes a quorum. With both houses in the hands of Republicans, all they need to do is maintain party discipline, show up for work, and run through any legislation their masters desire as quickly as it can be read into the record. SS "reform" could be accomplished on a voice vote. What's more, should all the Democrats be absent, a strategic number of Republicans who might need to do so for election year purposes could vote against it.

11. The thing I'm wondering
about this is what about the Social Security ordeal? If they walk out how will they defend that?

12. My point exactly ...

As mentioned, using the walk-out tactic as a protest for something specific, like killing the filibuster, could be beneficial. But, simply walking out, particular from the House, could and probably would have tremendously bad results.

8. it's time to get radical.....
I would, walkout, out of pure protest. They don't want us there anyway, they've bastardized us into disgrace and disrepute. I think we should pull up our pants and go home. Then, they will have nobody, to play with. (They play keepsies, with the marbles, anyway.) No longer,is there, any such thing as, a level playing field. No such thing as playing fair. They frame themselves as having, all of the positive attributes. Assign us, with all the bad, attributes Remember, they are the ones for, less taxes, smaller government? How 'bout no, government. How 'bout Anarchy? How 'bout we do just walk out and some moderate Repubilicans with us, too. They are asking for a one party system. Let them have it. Let them own it. Let them be responsible for it. Who would they blame, then. They are in complete control of the govennment and the media, now, anyway. One party system. Sounds like Communism to me. That ought to scare even, them. They want communism, not in the socialist, sense but, in the, one party system sense. One party, to control, the whole government. It puts it in black and white, what their true goal, is. One party controls every thing. A true democracy should have many parties. We really only have two choices. We are a Federated Republic. Court the Libertarians.

13. Here's the statement
They just say that It is much more convinient to assist their constituents in gaining access to government locally and as the repubs say they are in charge, you feel it is necessary for them to be completely in charge there till the next election.
