2. DeLay, in support of "trade" in the Mariannas...
... managed to get a number of exceptions to US trade and labor laws passed in favor of sweatshop owners--principally, an exception to US minimum wage laws. But, apparently, one of those exceptions actually made it easier for people to engage in the traffic of children for the sex trade in Saipan.

" "You represent everything that is good about what we are trying to do in America," DeLay said at the time to his audience, which included Saipan officials and factory owners. "

4. And guess where those sweatshop jobs came from???

TEXAS.

Tom DeLay gutted the Dallas garment industry and sent all of those manufacturing jobs to Saipan. He's a traitor to his state and to his nation.

5. My dad was a sweatshop tailor in NYC
Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 12:03 AM by eleny
Put me and my brother through college in the 1960s sewing pockets for various tailor shops. That was back in the 1920s to 1970s. He worked the pre union through union shop years. Then the factories moved south and to Asia. It was a proud history at one time until sleaze merchants like DeLay got into the act.
