About a month or so back I decided I would run for presidency of my current high school freshman class. My opponent was a well liked stuck up prep, and a Republican for that matter.
Many people thought that I could never make this a close race. They figured her popularity and her looks would be all she would need to get the guys vote and her families money would get the girls vote.
I myself and a working 15 year old that comes from a working family in Ohio. I have worked at A&W restaurant since i was about 14 and I truly know the value of a dollar. My opponent however came from a family of popularity and wealth, has never seen the light of a paycheck, let alone payed into the Social Security her president is getting ready to screw up.
It was an exhausting campaign, balancing work with school and school with campaigning but I had hope that in the end all would justifiably prevail.
Today held the election. I gave a great speech to everyone in my grade in full suit and tie, unlike my opponent whos choice of slutty shirt and jeans made her look unpresidential, exactly the look I was expected. During the speech I took a few hits at my opponent by saying she dont know what she got herself into with the budget crisis we are now facing.
Anyways after the speeches were read our class got to vote, hours later, I was declared the winner, surprisingly, but later learned my lead was what a teacher described to me as a "landslide".
This election has really taught me that if you know what your fighting for and you believe in what your fighting for, popularity does not make a difference, wealth does not make a difference, only you can make a difference.
This is something I will keep with me throughout whatever career i am chosen into, i know from this point on I can do it, and I will, someday, somewhere I will be the Democrat on the ballot.
