Ted Kennedy: They Made Their Case -- Now Make Yours
Received by email.

Dear (me),

Last week, we warned you about the right-wing attacks against Senator Kennedy and each one of us. In response, you sent thousands of people the facts about President Bush's unqualified nominees.

That response inspired me and the rest of the staff here -- you broke new ground by immediately taking word of the fight in the Senate to thousands of ordinary people across the country. I hope we can be a resource for you to stay wired into the crucial fights and decisions that will affect all of us.

This week the Senate is in recess, so Republican leaders are at home trying desperately to persuade a skeptical public that their power grab somehow makes sense. It's amazing that despite millions of dollars spent on advertising and public relations they have yet to make their case.

They know they can't win on the merits, so the right-wing ideologues have resorted to personal attacks. They have attacked Senator Kennedy and other Democratic leaders - you can see the latest ridiculous attack here:

Their smokescreen isn't working. As the stage gets set for a showdown in the Senate next week, public support for their power grab is plummeting. Journalists are questioning Janice Rodgers Brown's judicial activism. Commentators agree that Priscilla Owen is not a mainstream appointment. And the Republicans themselves are deafeningly silent on William Myers' qualifications.

One Republican speaking up is George Bush - but unfortunately for Republican leaders he spoke out only to distance himself from Senator Bill Frist's incredibly divisive attacks.

Over the course of the next week TedKennedy.com will be featuring the comments of people like you who want to preserve an independent judiciary and protect the rights of the minority in the Senate.

If you want to speak your mind you can start right now:

Be sure to check back regularly and pass along the link to your friends so that they can join the fight. The latest comments will be featured on our Journal.

Thank you so much for your hard work and support.

Sincerely,
Tom Lopach

P.S. -- Remember to pass along to your friends the talking points and research about each of the judges that are ready to reach the Senate floor: http://www.tedknnedy.com/unqualified

=================================================

They Made Their Case -- Now Make Yours
Republican leaders will talk about anything but the qualifications of these judges. They talk about changing the rules, about they should have absolute power, they talk about anything -- they even attack those who have the audacity to challenge them.

They know they can’t win on the merits, so the right-wing ideologues have resorted to personal attacks. They have attacked Senator Kennedy and other Democratic leaders – you can see the latest ridiculous attack by clicking on the image at the right.

Now they they have made their case -- now make yours.

We will feature your comments on TedKennedy.com, and make sure the world understands not only what we are fighting for -- but also the danger posed if the GOP leadership completes its power grab in the United States Senate.

4. This is great! Exactly the kind of responses we need to make
If we don't activate people who share our beliefs we have no chance to beat back the return of the dark ages.

FOUR YEARS LATER, THE RULES HAVE CHANGED
Dean Statement on Bush Judicial Nominees

Washington, DC - Democratic National Committee Chairman, Gov. Howard Dean, issued the following statement on the fourth anniversary of
President Bush's initial submission of his slate of federal judicial nominees. The announcement four years ago marked a disturbing beginning to a string of divisive and unilateral judicial picks that ignored the tradition of consultation that began with George Washington and extended through President Clinton.

"Over the past four years, Democrats and Republicans have worked together in a bipartisan manner to confirm 208 of the President's
judicial appointees--that's more than 95 percent of Bush's choices," said Governor Dean. "Now, Washington Republicans want to blow up 200 years of Senate history and change the rules simply because they aren't getting their way on a handful of radical nominees. Democrats have tried to offer a compromise to break the Republican gridlock an get back to doing the people's business. Instead, the Republicans have rejected bipartisanship in favor of an extremist agenda.

"The American people deserve better than this partisan bickering.
Instead of shutting down the Senate over a few radical judges, George Bush and Bill Frist should put their political ambitions aside and take action to reduce gas prices, cut the costs of health care, and create jobs."
