Unfortunately, The Filibuster Fight Is A Win/Win For The Rs
If they get their way, they do whatever they want.

If they somehow lose this round, then they go into 2006 with yet another manufactured "issue" for the dummies: "give us a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate so we can do the Lord's work!"

They're only 5 away from that majority. They will target every Dem they can, including the high-profile Dems who spoke out so eloquently.

And they'll get their 60 members through voter fraud, fraud that will be supported by the constant barrage of MSM stories about how "the public - which was dead set against eliminating the filibuster - has now turned against the Dems for their obstructionism. By voting for a filibuster-proof R majority, the American people have preserved the Senate rules while handing Pres * the power to fulfill his conservative/Jesus-based mandate blah, blah, blah."

You heard it here first.

1. Heck .... We might as well give up now ....
and either :

1) Remain Democrats, but admit we will NEVER EVER EVER win another issue, ever ....

or

2) Become Republicans, and applaud our unstoppable genius .....

What are you going to do ?

2. Not give up, but get working on the counter offense ASAP.
If the Dems can stop this now, they need to make it a cause and bang on the Rs for "attempting to rip up the Constitution" throughout the election cycle.

My fear is that we stop it now...and do nothing in addition, allowing the Rs to seize the initiative...again.

3. Have you noticed....
The ratings slide the 'MSM' has been dealing with more and more as the networks decline to do any ... um... journalism?

4. The war and the economy will be more important. I am starting
to believe the torture story might be getting legs.

5. Uh, Lord's work?
Your premise is faulty. The majority of our citizens want each judge scrutinized rather than rubber stamping of the presidents wishes.

The GOP are on a lose-lose base on this issue. The only people interested in W's doing the Lord's work is a group of right wing fanatics. Mainstream is turned off by them.

8. I don't think the muddy middle will go for it again.
But hell, I could be wrong. Shit, I actually thought we were gonna win in 00 and 04.

11. No

It's easy to dwell on worst case scenarios. It's foolish to believe in them- if they become reality, that's bad enough, so why ruin a couple additional years worrying about them happening?

No, we didn't hear it from you first. And you are happily evidence-free, because any serious evaluation of the evidence says it's not going to happen.

But thanks for sharing your nightmares with us. Happily, we have all the defeatism we can muster right now, yours is just extra. Be nice to the rest of us when we do win, because a bunch of us will be giving you the ol' We Told You So Because We Actually Checked The Evidence Early On and we'll be sort of annoyed at the wierd hysteria of the horde of Doubting Thomases.

12. I see it as lose-lose for the R's.
The public is opposed to their actions regarding filibusters. Also regarding Tom Delay. Also regarding Terri Schiavo, and Justice Sunday. And Social Security phase-out. And the Iraq War.

They're really on a roll. Let's not stop them!
