3. It's an ad...
One of the most important points in journalism is the wall between advertising and editorial. Editorial has no control over advertising, and vice versa (ideally). In any case, just because they run an ad doesn't mean they support it. It'd be a different story if the personalities on AAR were supporting McCain.

4. Yes, I know.
But underneath is the fact that if nominated (unlikely) McCain is going to try to appeal to moderate Dems. With his rep as a so-called "moderate" it might work.
