Historian Douglas Brinkley on CNN:"Dean really hurt himself" re "sit down"
Historian Douglas Brinkley on CNN: "Howard Dean really hurt himself when he told that senior citizen to sit down."

Malarky rightwing talking-points.

That "senior citizen" was a Republcan heckler who had already talked for 3 minutes and proceeded to interupt Howard Dean as he responded.

I hope Douglas Brinkely has hecklers, if anyone shows up for book-signings or whatever.

Then we can see how he likes it and what he does.

1. He said that was when the POLL numbers started tracking down for Dean.
That is true. Why pretend it isn't?

2. Why pretend it is related at all?
Who really knows about it except political junkies and DU'ers?

It didn't get the coverage of the scream.

You're reaching.

3. He used it as the starting point for the poll number drop.
Nothing more. It played more in Iowa then it did nationally.

4. That and Dean having disparaged
the Caucus process on Canadian television years earlier. Plenty of Iowans were very aware of both incidents.

5. Sure it did
It hurt him badly in Iowa and was played ad nauseum on FoxNews. Of course the guy was a Republicn phony and plant, of course he had talked for 3 minutes and was baiting Dean to blow up. But what hurt Dean was that he did blow up and that's all that gets shown and remembered.

6. Telling someone to "Sit down"...
...Is never a good thing. I'm sure it didn't do him any good.
