Is "Muslim" a language? Kerry thinks so.
"Late Edition" with Wolf Blitzer, July 13, 2003

http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0307/13/le.00.html

KERRY:...And I believe the obligation of the United States government, of the president is to rapidly internationalize the effort in Iraq, get the target off of American troops, bring other people, particularly Muslim-speaking and Arabic-speaking Muslim troops, into the region, help us diffuse the sense of American occupation, and rapidly transfer power to the Iraqis.

BLITZER: All right.

Thats really a minor gaffe to be honest, I tell you, I didnt jump on your guy when he more recently refered to Russia as the Soviet Union. I dont have the link for it but it happened. This happened a half of year ago.

3. Just as I've defended your candidate for slips of the tongue
The same needs to be done here.

If we go back to every word spoken by a candidate there are bound to be slips. This isn't a big issue.

36. But Kerry himself has attacked Dean for his "gaffes"
It's called hypocricy. If Kerry is going to attack Dean for things he says, and claims that Dean is not qualified to be president because of it, then he should realize that everything that says will be held up to the same level of scrutiny. If anything, he deserves even more criticism.

6. Obviously a misspeak. Whip Him! Kerry is Multi-lingual and travelled in
region. His wife is from Mozamique, East Africa, which has a large population of Arab-influences tribes. What's your point. Dean, or Edwards, or Clark has a better understanding of thoses cultures?

Yes, misspoke. Then immediately corrected himself. Arabic-speaking Muslim troops. That's what a President is supposed to be able to do.

Dean called Russia the Soviet Union. Clark said the Taliban was in Iraq (he meant Afghanistan).

This sounds like an honest slip of the tongue. Nothing to go ballistic about.

if you believe what he said in the debate.

Or maybe it was a slip of the tongue?

Smart money says 'Slip of the tongue.' Smarter money says 'The smears are getting silly and desperate.' In fact, 'The smears are getting silly and desperate' is running 2-1 in Vegas.

is that he's giving Dean's speech almost word for f-ing word... maybe the reason Kerry is mesing up is that he's reading the speech off some crib notes of Dean;s speeches and statements?

September 07, 2003
Statement From Governor Howard Dean

It is time to bring NATO into Iraq, and it is high time to bring in the UN and to ask for Arabic speaking troops from places like Egypt and Morocco as well as other Muslim troops to help in this effort.

22. Oh please. This is really stretching.
He is obviously correcting himself... he probably actualliy SAID "Muslim-speaking...(pause for correction)... Arabic-speaking Muslim troops..."

Or even if he said "and", it's fairly obvious that he's either correcting himself or it's just a brief slip of the tongue. Otherwise, why would he have said "Arabic-speaking MUSLIM (again) troops"?

If Kerry, or anyone else, made a HABIT of statements like this, that would be one thing. But the only candidate who has done that is, well... Bush.

32. But what if this wasn't a slip of the tongue?

Then I suppose "Muslim speaking" would mean "speaking with a Muslim perspective, understanding and comprehension".

So he screwed up and used Muslim when he should have used Islamic. An Islamic speaking individual would have known that.

the foundation of the Dean campaign.

But this is what we've come to expect from them.

Hopefully tommorow people like Kerry and Edwards can stop Dean's reign of terror.
