Poll question: Bushville or Camp Katrina? - Katrina Survivor encampment in DC
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 02:49 PM by GeorgeBushytail
The protest encampment of Katrina survivors in Washington DC should be named:

(Google "Hooverville" for historical perspective on "Bushville")

1. Links to Camp Katrina/Bushville threads
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 02:34 PM by GeorgeBushytail
On 9/11 survivors of Katrina will commit an act of Civil disobedience by setting up an illegal camp on the Washington DC Mall. Camp Katrina/Bushville will stay there as long as it takes to get answers and change.

Join the March to Camp Katrina/Bushville on The Mall.

DUers endorse the idea in the Mississippi State forum:

Expatriot - "Awesome idea. You have my full support. It should be a full blown DU co-sponsored event."

Liberty Belle - "Nominated. I have a large network of contacts and will help you spread the word, if this takes off. Be sure to tie it in to activities on Sept 24th, when you will have anti-administration activists in DC for the anti-war march and impeachment rally."

A DUer in the Louisiana Forum:

AnnInLa - "I think it is a fabulous idea, but people here are a little involved right now. I sure hope this idea takes off, tho, and thanks alot!"

19. Only problem is, a lot of people, even among the Good Guys, don't
look into history too much. "Hooverville" won't resonate with those observers who don't. "bushville" will. Because it pins the tail directly on the elephant who's the biggest offender.

I vote "bushville." Let's hang his name on it permanently.

Just like we need to hang the Iraq war around HIS neck - "bush's war."

And we need to hang rising gas prices around HIS neck - "bush's price-gouging."

It's "bush's... " EVERYTHING.

Including, eventually, IMPEACHMENT, I hope.

PS - have you called your reps yet? TOLL FREE TO CAPITOL HILL - (877) 762 - 8762. Or their local offices - you can find 'em through www.congress.org.

5. Bushville. Next door should be "Kamp Katrina"
Of course, there would be no real divide between the 2 camps other than their "addresses." One can run right into another, as Bush's influence on everything appears to be catastrophic... gotta tie them together, IMO!

7. Put the 2 side-by-side. The "Billionaires for Bush" to do "Bushville"
and the Katrina survivors to do "Camp Katrina"

"Rich camp" vs. "poor camp"

Maybe "Spa Katrina" would work better for the Billionaires.

8. Bushville sounds a bit like a pro-* site
That's my only concern about it, so opted for Camp Katrina.

11. Bushville: reminiscent of Hoovervilles
I'd personally prefer "Bushtowns": Bush shantytowns.

15. i can't vote....
i looked at Hooverville and while the name Bushville may be appropriate i am still too emotionally impacted to be able to differentiate between any name given and what it might mean to the people most affected. Camp Katrina doesn't feel right either...I'm way too sensitive for my own good

17. The survivors who build the camp will name it
I find polls a good way to grab DUer's attention. This poll is part of spreading the idea.
