$2k debit card replaced with EFT or mailed check.

This was just announced on CNN. Reason was because of the rush of people at the Astrodome to get the cards.

What I'm wondering is... at least 50% of these displaced people most likely don't have bank accounts for the EFT, and sure as hell don't have a residence to get a check mailed to. So how the hell do these people get the money?

Most poor people do not have bank accounts! I should know cuz I have been there. Where are they going to receive a check and even if they get one where are they going to cash it? The debit card was a good idea but the government knew they needed to get rid of it. I hate to see people suffer so much unnecessarily. BTW: Those people did not rush to get the cards-they have stood in a line for two days to get it and never did.

Umm, so how many banks in and around New Orleans are open? I guess if you do have an existing checking or savings account at a bank that you can access with an debit or ATM card, getting the money via an ACH transfer might be faster than waiting for the government to send you a debit card or a check. It seems like a check would be pretty much useless to most folks after going through a disaster like this.

What would you deposit it to,your old checking account in NO?? Ok,then HOW would you write checks against that deposit--with all those checks in your checkbook that you left NO with?!?!?!?
