Right hates Clark because he was said to be Clinton's Man
About two months ago I responded to a poster on the AOL Wesley Clark message board. He had posted attacks on Clark every day for two months. I noticed he wasn't attacking the other candidates on their message board so I asked him why he hated Clark so much. He said "Because he is Clinton's Man". Several weeks later he even admitted he liked Clark better than any of the other candidates yet he was doing everything in his power to stop Clark. I think the attacks on Clark are just as much an attempt to stop Clinton as to stop Clark.

The Right has had reporters following Clark every place he goes waiting for him to make a mistake then when he does they plaster it all over the place. Can you imagine if the media followed Bush around every second of the day looking for every mistake he made? I don't think Clinton really had that much to do with Clark but the Right played up the association to create a tidal wave of attacks on Clark.

1. I think it would be best for Clark to keep distance from Clinton.
For GE sake.

Clark carries the "outsider" image and the connections that binds him with Clinton is a good thing for primaries. But, it could back-fire during GE. Clinton is a "polarizing" figure and rattles the GOP and their ardent supporters.

In my opinion, I think Clark will do better in GE if he kept a good distance from "polarizing" figures like Clinton, Moore and Madonna.

Although the endorsements are good during the primary phase, it could be a bad thing in GE due to the extreme hatred for Clinton from the right wing base.

2. That's probably true.
But Clinton will surely endorse the nominee regardless of who it is.

On the other hand, I bet A LOT of Americans remember being better off during the Clinton years.

3. They Fear Him
The right wingers probably fear Clark more than all the other candidates because if he gets big momentum and a lot of national exposure he will beat Bush. He probably has the most potential overall, on a purely image and symbolic level, to appeal to their voters. Imagine, purely on an image level, Clark appearing on the same stage with shrub. Without even considering the merits or Bush's abysmal record. Clark is tall, imposing, handsome, articulate and confident. He has an "All-American" resume including honorable military service. Shrub is smaller, cretinous, simian and smirking and on any close inspection is a silver spoon privileged mama's boy frat animal with a military record that is questionable at best. They DON'T WANT THIS!

There has been a fierce concerted campaign to paint Clark as the creation/puppet of the Clintons from the very beginning, everyone from Rush to William Safire. They feel this will "taint" and discredit Clark. I think a lot of people around now are starting to remember that they were pretty well off during the Clinton years now...
