So, when do you think the "Bin Laden died in his cave when the
earthquake struck" rumors will start. This story would get Bush off the hook and please the "God is on our side" folks. On the other hand, * would have to find a new boogeyman.

3. I'd agree, except he'd be martyrized so fast your head would spin.
Nothing radical zealots like better than a dead martyr.

(Hmmm. Martyrization. Sounds like something you should do to a frying pan to make it non-stick.)

5. Dunno. My thoughts...
It would be a mistake to kill bin Laden, as the Martyr he would become would be lasting. (Shades of Che.) Instead, to defeat him, it would be better to capture and try him, as with Saddam. (More on Saddam below.)

Another thought is that bin Laden has been allowed to live to serve this administrations need for a living, HUNTABLE, foe. You can't use bullets against a concept, like terrorism. But you can use them against a person. And you can convince people to hate a person easier than a concept as well.

A more radical thought is that bin Laden lives because he and this adminstration are actually in cohoots. Personally, I don't buy this, at least not on a formal level. I think they both are profiting from this "war." The Bush administration has increased it's hold on power here in the US (with some recent setbacks.) And I imagine Al Queda's enlistments have never been higher. I don't think they need conference calls for that to happen, though.

Saddams trial needs to close up soon, least he become a martyr while still in captivity, such as Nelson Mandela became.

One hour Martyrizing?

I always wondered what that meant.

7. I don't see much chance of taking Bin Laden alive. While
BushCo needed, as The Onion put it, "to find an enemy and defeat it," if Bin Laden had been provably dead at the hands of the U.S. by the fall of last year, * would have been really re-elected rather than having to steal it.

11. Don't you think
They could gather some of the world's greatest computer animation and graphics experts to fake all those "message from osama" tapes for the next 25 years. I think they could do that and get away with it. I'm sure they would like to be able to write osama's speeches for him.

No evidence of Bin Laden’s death in quake

WASHINGTON: No evidence suggests that the deadly earthquake that rocked Pakistan on Saturday injured or killed the world’s top terror leader, Osama bin Laden.

The quake shook the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan, where bin Laden is believed to be hiding. However, authorities at this point have no information indicating whether he has been injured or killed, said a US official.

Bin Laden guided the September 11, 2001, attacks aimed at New York City and Washington.

US hopes for bin Laden’s death or capture were high in December 2001, when the US and Afghan troops surrounded a cave complex sheltering Al Qaeda members in Afghanistan’s Tora Bora region. However, bin Laden escaped and is now believed to be living a relatively isolated existence to evade capture.

He was last seen publicly on a videotaped message before the November 2004 US elections.

BBC World Service this morning was reporting from Balochistan which I think is the region described in the story. Bad damage there...
