Panel OKs Immigration Nominee Julie Myers
Bush's pick to head the $4-billion agency was questioned on her lack of related experience.

WASHINGTON — A Senate committee on Friday approved the nomination of Julie L. Myers, a lawyer with no specific immigration experience, to head U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Myers' nomination, which ran into trouble in its early stages as both Republicans and Democrats questioned her credentials, comes amid criticism of the Bush administration for placing inexperienced political allies in key positions — as epitomized by Michael D. Brown, the former horse association executive who resigned as head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency after its faltering response to Hurricane Katrina.
.....
"My greatest concern about this nominee is her relative lack of management experience," said Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.), who voted against her.

2. Richard Meyers needs a beatdown!
Did you see this guy mouthing off in the direction of John McCain the other day? He explained that Vietnam experience wasn't useful for understanding Iraq.

Shut up, General Meyers! Shut your massive pie hole!

3. Lieberman running scared of DINO label? Voting against Bush nominee?
The way these votes work, is that it wasn't called until chairman Collins knew she had enough votes to get the nomination out of committee. Once she had enough to get it out, the Rs could let Lieberman off the hook. Because he has so blindly and enthusiastically and publicly supported Bush/Chertoff/Rumsfeld for the past couple of years, that there's no logical reason he would not take their word that the candidate was just perfect for this job. I think he's trying to build up a few examples of where he voted against Bush's wishes. This is exactly the same thing that Senator Arlen Specter (a self-styled, "moderate" Republican) has done for decades. The Republicans know that if they really need either Specter's or Lieberman's votes, they can get them.

The key factor in this approval by the committee is that Myers is Chertoff's pick for the job - and why not? As not only a tried and proven Bush attack dog, but also the new wife of Chertoff's No. One assistant, she can be counted on to follow Chertoff's orders with no concern for the effectiveness and well-being of those below her. She will be totally upward oriented, and will enforce any policy dictated to her.

The hard fact is that she has no law enforcement experience, just as Brown had no emergency response experience.
