32. It's the All-American "Rooting for the Underdog" Syndrome...
...and it's only cheered on more, when this underdog seems like he/she's winning at everything he/she does (helped by an utterly helpful-to-Repubs-exclusively, brainwashing media, of course).

Of course there are the regular Repuke-hacks that would vote for a sockpuppet just as long as it's Republican, but the majority of Independents, and even some Democrats and Republicans that voted for him, did so because of the above, I believe.

I mean, the corporate-owned right-wing biased media (that need friendly Repub votes for huge tax cuts and more lenient FCC rules) nearly put the halo around *'s cocky head during his campaigning against Gore; showing Gore as a know-it-all, and * as the less intelligent of the two, and did the same with Kerry.

Am I the only one who sees this?

73. And It Shouldn't Be Happening So Successfully Anymore...
....NOT in this age of the "information superhighway"!

I mean, there are so many sources from which people these days can get their information, and news, and it's clear with the down-spiraling of ratings with cable and network news outlets (in addition to disappointing print news subscriptions for the big ones like NYT's and Los Angeles Times...people are clearly opting for other ways to get their news, and I'm wondering (hoping, maybe?) that come next year, that Standard Operating Modem will have the least affect.

it up and lots of people don't have the internet or go to the trouble to look at the news if they do have it.

Even though he is receiving a tiny bit more negative press now, it is still pretty much hands off of him.

14. Agreed. This quote says it all:
"An unnamed Bush official told reporter Ron Suskind, 'We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality.' For those who didn't like it, another Bush adviser explained,

'Let me clue you in. We don't care. You see, you're outnumbered two to one by folks in the big, wide middle of America, busy working people who don't read the New York Times or Washington Post or the LA Times.'

59. Arrogance 365.22 Long Term Counter Effects of
Existing and predicted problems for Humanity because of persistent Arrogant Leadership 101.07

Combo of Selfish, Ignorant, Arrogant, Leadership:

Forget "Healthy, Wealthy and Wise"

The Focus is on Self/Special Interest and not General Interest/Common Good.

Huge Problema....Huge...

Focus becomes defense/enhancement of Wealth/Position/etc and NOT research as to what will work better...

Advancement is slowed down

Knowledge is stifled.

Brain washing continues

Famines coming our way, over pop not being addressed, food supply
dimming.

Nutrients in eco system out of balance more and more due to Humanity

Extinction Reduction Unit not yet formed/funded

etc

75. Good intermediate goal...
...however, the news is filtered way too much. And increasingly, this is done more and more by the sort of people who gave us Bush.

If they are enticed to go to the front page only to be propagandized by Neo Cons and other lower forms of political life, then the whole purpose of trying to inform people is defeated.

Their aggressive effort to even think about progressive political stances should be countered eye to eye. It is far easier to do now then it would be to do later after any success at playing sheep dog.

cut txes and bring prosperity, that he would be a uniter and not a divider, and told us that he would include all Americans in his dream, while somehow preserving American morals, and that he was for a strong proud America.

He aligned himself with powerful religious images and words.

He forgot to tell us that the neocons had been planning how to run ths country for a long time and that he would say pretty words not matched by his deeds.

People got suckered into the awe- shucks, regular guy, going back to American traditions in a tolerant and enlightened 21 st century.
Then he unleashed the theocrats on us and their plans for social engineering.

He cut taxes, invaded Iwreck, screwed up nation building, ranup a huge deficit for our children and brought out the ugliest in human nature in the name of cultural wars.

39. Wait until it gets really cold here in the states......
While most of us pay much less for gas than Hawaii we're going to get RAPED by heating oil costs. Where I live its the natural gas suppliers that have already announced 50% increases.

You can cut back on driving but how the hell do you cut back on the heating when its 10 degrees outside?

40. Problem is
even if Dem's win in 4 to 8 years when the sheep are doing better they will vote in another repuke. Thats been their patteren since 69. I think most of the sheep are masochistic, they like being beat up and it serves an deep inner desire to be ruled over. Thats why they are so worried about those poor rich people that Dem's over tax. After all the rich worked hard to get rich. The repukes said so and so its true. After all only Dem's lie.

41.  inner desire to be ruled over

i see it all the time. the Daddy complex. my husb. backs the tax cuts because 'they' - the rich, deserve it. otoh, we are on social security and my paltry parttime paycheck and whatever he makes when he does consulting. but it's OK that the rich got their tax cuts, 'because they pay most of the taxes'.

42. successful branding.
bush's handlers came up with an image, not a canidate. they targeted and sold their "product" to the people in this country who are least likely to question the value of a product. just like some people will buy anything with the nascar brand on it because they like nascar. they never question why nascar is so great, they just accept it.
same with bush voters. they bought an image and a brand name. it was easy when the product was packaged as "patriotic, wholesome, conservative, religous". now they are reluctant to change their brand loyalty because it would be like admitting they were wrong in the first place.

90. Ronald Reagan is their hero
After trying for 4 years they can't defend their love of this man. It was all good packaging, branding with a large dose of propaganda. Aren't you amazed that Kerry lost because of his war record. They are good.....evil, but good.
The first rule of marketing is know your target audience Rove certainly did.

They may have more degrees, but we have the higher intellect. They simply can't fool us.

51. Not a LOSING President, but a LYING President
How is it that so many people give him a free pass for doing the very types of things they would disown their own family members for?

I ranted on this in a post a few months ago - how many Christians, of which I am, have allowed this guy to disregard the very tenents that our faith is founded on.

A prime example are the civilian deaths in Iraq that NOBODY wants to address.

I once asked a group of righties in a different forum...what do you say to the father who holds his lifeless 2 year old daughter?

a. That's the price of freedom.
b. Stay the course.
c. Better her than an American 2 year old.
d. You are Muslim so you are going to hell anyway.

The responses I got were

"We don't target civilians" to which I said OOOOOH in that case never mind all the innocent people that have been killed. I mean, we aren't targeting them so they don't count.

"Iraqis really want freedom and they understand this struggle."

and of course I got the barrage of:

"You're unAmerican."
"You love Saddam Hussein."
"You've never been in the military so who are you to criticize."
"I hope you die of a terminal illness."

64. It's that instinctive "Father Knows Best" yearning...
"Daddy does no wrong, would never harm us" that fosters the enablement (and denial) of such All-American values as incest, rampant spousal and substance abuse that IS and HAS BEEN the very structure of Dysfunctional families and nations since the dawn of time.

offers PROTECTION from the FEAR, Induced, Heightened, and/or for REAL.

In sports its the Quarterback, the man who calls the shots...

In Society, its the President, King, Dictator, etc.

He the guy to lead us to the Promised Land...

In Bushies case however, its been all bad..news...all.

Yeah, there are some Repugs who will be for Bush if only because he's a Repug, but if you look at the recent poll numbers, America is NOT for the Chimp by a LARGE majority.

88. They don't care
What is it - half the voting age population doesn't bother to vote, even in Pres. elections? They're only concerned with their own lives. They have no sense of history and the lessons learned by others and don't realize that "their own lives" and that of their families depend on more than just possessing the next piece of cheap crap they can get at the mall.
