1. Hundreds to gather at Democratizing Education Convention - In just two weeks, hundreds of campus organizers from scores of campuses will gather at the first Democratizing Education Convention, October 20-23, at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. The common goal: Campaigning against corporatization, and for democracy in higher education. For more information about the convention, contact Pabitra Benjamin at Benjamin@LibertyTreeFDR.org

2. Voting Rights Movement underway - David Cobb and Patrick Barrett have played key roles in major events in three cities in three months. In August in Atlanta, they organized a national strategic planning retreat for the new voting rights movement; in September in Washington D.C. they appeared at the National Press Club in, "A Call to Protect and Democratize U.S. Elections;" and this past week they served as featured speakers in Oregon's, "National Summit to Save Our Elections."

For details on the last two of these events, see A Call to Protect and Democratize U.S. Elections and the Summit Speakers page.

3. Premiere issue of Journal of the Democratic Revolution coming soon - Our first issue of the Journal of the Democratic Revolution is coming soon. Features include news from across the border in Canada, where students recently brought Quebec to a standstill, and where preferential voting systems are on the rise; David Cobb interviewing Howard Zinn on bringing revolutionary politics back into progressive movements; updates on our Local Democracy, Democratizing Education, and Democratizing Elections campaigns; a rich debate on the relationship between reformist and revolutionary strategies; and original artwork by Steve Chappell, among others.

4. Prospects for Participatory Democracy in the U.S. - "We see democratization struggles as our best means for creating the conditions in which individuals learn about, adopt, gain a thirst for, and come to demand, democratic methods and goals," stated Ben Manski in his remarks at the International Seminar on Participatory Democracy in Barcelona, Spain.

5. After a little trouble, Liberty Tree News list established - Last Thursday, we transferred the No Stolen Elections! email list to our new web address (the Nov3.US address will be discontinued soon). But there were some configuration problems with the software we used. As a result, many individuals received fifteen to twenty unsubscribe messages addressed to Liberty Tree. We're very sorry that that happened. We have shut that list down entirely, and are now contacting you using the tried-and-true email technology offered by Groundspring. If you want to continue receiving updates from us, you should sign up for the Liberty Tree News.

Please subscribe to our new Liberty Tree News list at the Join Our News List page.

1. Liberty Tree -Foundation for a Democratic Revolution
Glad to see this posted already, you saved me the trouble of cutting and pasting :applause:

I just received the newsletter in my email and i subscribed to be on the list. Wish i were able to get to Wisconsin for this convention, but we'll just have to make sure that it will spread like a grass roots fire.

Participatory democracy - among other reforms, requires the abolishment of the Electoral College System and the implementation of Proportional Representation/IRV.
