HUGE WIN FOR TIM KAINE TONIGHT IN THE VA DEBATES!
Edited on Sun Oct-09-05 07:29 PM by nickshepDEM
Im not from Virginia, but I have been following this race very closely, and let me tell you... IM PUMPED UP!

Huge win for Kaine tonight. This guy articulates his message so well.

The highlight of the debate for me was the pledge by Tim Kaine to air positive ad's 50 percent of the time. Kilgore refused to make the same pledge. Sabato (the moderator) & Kaine nailed him on that point. Kaine really capitalized on this point. Pointing out that he will be a Governor with a positive vision for commonwealth, while Kilgore will result to negative tactics as usual.

Great night for Time Kaine!

4. "Against the death penalty and against abortion" Did I hear that right?
Edited on Sun Oct-09-05 07:39 PM by mestup
(I'm not from Virginia but enjoyed watching the debate.)

If I heard Kaine's statement correctly, that's the first time I've ever heard any politician be consistent in his/her beliefs about life.

Regardless of where anyone stands on either issue, doesn't it just drive you nuts when RWingers can't explain their pro-life, pro-death penalty stance?

5. That's my personal moral position.
However, I am uncomfortable with anti-abortion laws. I simply morally oppose the act.

The death penalty though should be thrown out. Kaine has real courage for saying that in VA and I hope people respect him for it.

Man, Kaine really nailed that Schiavo bit too. In short, Kaine said, Gov't out of our personal lives and personal decisions. Kilgore played the whole, I think it was wrong to starve the woman, and I commend those who stood up for her.

Kaine nailed every topic I wanted him too. Including calling Kilgore out on his constant use of the word 'liberal'. In a sense he said, Kilgore, do you have any other words in your vocab?

Edited on Sun Oct-09-05 07:58 PM by clydefrand
He and Bush are like twins joined at the hip.

But most people in this state won't bother to educate themselves about these candidates. Kaine is far superior, but he probably won't win just because Kilgore kept bringing up taxes that Kaine will raise.

I'm hoping that people will see that a Democrat has made this state solid once again and will want to keep it that way. Every time we get a repug in there, he gets us farther and farther in debt and things go to hell in a hand basket.

10. He indeed did say that, but he said he would uphold the laws of
the state.

And Kilgore couldn't give a straight answer when asked about the culture of life and how does that square with his stance on the death penalty. I wish the questioner had asked him if he supported an illegal, unjust war and the killing of innocent people as well as our own.

Kilgore tried to get his "But you're no John Kennedy" remark in when Kaine said that Kennedy took an oath to uphold the laws of this country even though he too was a Roman Catholic. It didn't seem to get any mileage with the reporters asking questions or Sabato asking most of the questions.

17. Yes
It's so hypocritical to me. They want to save the babies (to me that's like saving an acorn) but once the baby is born they don't want to care for them with better public education and public health care and they are for the death penalty. They don't ever explain themselves either. They're just against it cause of the bad murders. :eyes: Instead of killing them why not work on making them a person for society again and helping their soul? They always say the woman is playing with the babies life with abortion, well they're doing the same thing with an actual human being. Plus, too many innocent people get killed on death row. There just has to be a better way.

9. I watched the debate. Kilgore couldn't do anything but run
his mouth about how Kaine would raise taxes. What a dolt. He has no vision for this state. But how many people who will be voting actually saw this debate, how many will read the articles in the paper about Kilgore? Very few. Only the DEMS watch and read...I'm convinced because if repugs watched and read about that jackass, they wouldn't vote for the ignorant SOB. They probably can't stomach him either, but they want someone who will cut their taxes. It doesn't matter that the state may go broke or lack necessary funds for emergency expenditures or education or infrastructure. All they are interested in is defeating Kaine because Kilgore said he would reduce taxes and Kaine would raise them.

I noticed that Kaine got his dig in about illegal absentee voting. He agreed with Kilgore that he thinks better use should be made of absentee voting. But it should be done by not having fraudulent absentee voting as happened in Scott County where Kilgore's mother is the registrar. She is suspected of helping out the republican candidate by overlooking fraudulent absentee voting.

How can republicans have such dumbass candidates? Are they all as stupid as Bush?

19. Are people actually campaigning for Kaine?
Edited on Sun Oct-09-05 11:59 PM by FreedomAngel82
Go out and educate people. Pass out literature or mail it to people. In my town that's what the mayor canidates did. They mailed out lit papers (flyers) and told brief points and both had a .com website people can go and read more about their plans and they had an advertisement on their site and the now mayor had an interview with his positions. The now mayor is an indie who had democrats and republicans campaigning for him and going around and they met people and talked. I got to meet both canidates and the now mayor took more time with you. The other canidate just said "hi" and briefly talked. The other guy was just way more serious with campaigning. I think he was late for one thing but after that no more I don't think. All his hard work paid off.

13. The only thing...
...that Republicans want to hear is that their candidate wants to cut their taxes or give them big tax breaks. The person could be a self-confessed mass murderer and their sheeple could care less. Watching a debate is pointless for Republicans. They could care less that someone may want to do something good for them and their state-they just don't want to have to pay for anything.

I saw a few minutes of a debate between the two a good while back on "Road to the White House" hosted by Tim Russertt and I liked the democratic challenger and what he had to say. He sends his message across a lot clearer I think. Any video's out?

27. IMO, because VA has a slight lean to the right, and
GOP GOTV efforts are superior. Kaine will need a 3-4 point lead in the polls come election day to actual pull this thing off. Warner needs to get out there and drive this thing home for Kaine.

29. Are they voting on electronic machines? If so, does debate matter?
It doesn't matter what the other issues are, how well the debates go, how much work goes into the campaigns...If they are stealing the votes then the race will be close but not won.

We have to get rid of privatization in the voting process or simply watch the end of democracy.

Quit hoping, pretending that it can go well, if they can steal (AND THEY CAN) then give me a few good reasons why they won't. They sure as hell will.

30. Check out this article:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/02/AR2005080201635.html

This is why Kaine brought up absentee ballots.

Am I worried about voting machine fraud? YES! Absolutely!
