So Diebold can give S. America banks/ATMs fingerprint scanners...

They walk up to an ATM and press their thumbs on the screen. Out spits the cash. New York? No. Chicago? No. The mountains and jungles of Colombia.

It's one of the few places in the world where banks are using fingerprint biometrics, which verify people's identities based on their unique physical characteristics.

Diebold Inc. of North Canton, Ohio, has supplied fingerprint-capable ATMs to a bank in Chile that is using them in a pilot project. Last year Dayton, Ohio-based NCR Corp. installed 400 of them in Colombia.

<snip>

Diebold has tested ATMs with iris scans, but banks have yet to adopt the scanning because the systems were expensive and the cameras too large for small ATMs. Users had to practically put their noses on the screen for the scan to work.

1. Brazil has flex-fuel cars and virtually all the gas stations offer
ethanol for a third the cost of gasoline. And who builds those cars? Ford, GM, Toyota, Nissan, etc.

Why are Americans being deprived of 21st century technology?
