DASCHLE Doesn't Rule Out '08 Run
Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 06:05 PM by liberalpragmatist
This is a little ridiculous.

I feel bad for the man, and I guess he has a right to run in '08 if he wants. But I think he's probably delusional if he thinks he's going to get anywhere. LOSING a Senate race isn't the best qualification for the presidency, unless you're Abe Lincoln. And sorry to say it Tom, but you're no Abe Lincoln. Well, maybe we could have Newt v. Daschle - a faceoff between thoroughly discredited congressional leaders!

PARIS (AFP) - Tom Daschle, a former US senator who lost his seat last year, told AFP that he was undecided about whether to run as a candidate in 2008 presidential elections that will decide who will succeed George W. Bush.

"I haven't made any decision about my political future," he said during a visit to Paris when asked specifically about his plans regarding the presidency.

"My hope is to make as much of a contribution for my party over the next couple of years as I can," he said.

<snip>

In his interview with AFP, Daschle, 58, ruled out taking a shot at the governorship of South Dakota, saying "I have little interest in state government, I have far greater interest in national government."

8. If daschle is so lame WHY DID THE REPUBLICANS DESTROY HIM
Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 06:30 PM by emulatorloo
Hey I am not a big Daschle fan.

But look at the history - Republicans ran a concerted and vicious campaign to destroy Tom Daschle...

Thune campaign paid bloggers to discredit him.

Gannon was in on destruction of Daschle.

that's only the tip of the iceberg

google "republicans destroy daschle"

you'll find some interesting reading about the lengths they went to

9. Because for some unfathomable reason
he was the leader of the Democrats and it was an incredible psychological blow to the party to have its leadership destroyed. And being as lame as he was, he was an easy target. Just looking at that spindly little doofus makes me sick ... a perfect symbol to me (and virtually every other American) of what the Democratic party has become: spineless and ineffectual, the Neville Chamberlin of American politics (to the Republicans' Nazis).

10. Good. Having been slimed by the creepy GOP crawlies - he should
wear that as a badge. In fact they should make a medal for all the Democratic battle scared ones.

11. Is Tom Daschle the new editor for The Onion?
How about we let him play president in his own house, just not the White House. C'mon on Tom! Best laugh of the evening!

12. Would be the same as Gephardt running last year, or Dan Quayle in 2000
Ultimate aplology. Obviously I'm not comparing Daschle or anyone in our party to Dan Quayle.

The chance of securing the nomination would be comparable.

I guess guys like that always have it in their minds to run for president, and reality doesn't get in the way until it's expressed in actual votes, or lack thereof.

Daschle is a good man. He gets a bit of a bad rap. I mean, Thune was the only GOP candidate in South Dakota who could have stolen that senate seat. And two years earlier, Thune came within 500 votes and a furious early morning Indian-precinct rally by Tim Johnson of taking that seat, and not Daschle's in 2004. Daschle might be our minority leader right now with just a slight twist of history and preference.

13. Can someone verify or debunk
that Tom bought some Jaguar or Porche or something that he was seen driving all over the place before he got voted out? I would guess, if it's true, the whole limousine liberal thing probably didn't help him connect with the voters.

14. Hmm...let's see.. I lost my Senate seat in 2004, I'll run for PRESIDENT.
Perhaps Im not seeing it right, but that's the wrong direction Mr. Daschle

On the other hand Republicans/corporatists, could be courting Daschle because they could at least push him around. He would allow business to run pretty much like they want it to.

17. makes sense since he is headliner for the Iowa Jefferson
Jackson Dinner in November.

Tom is still al in the Beltway. I saw him in Minneapolis earlier this year and someone asked him "Can you agree with me that Al Gore was robbed of the presidency in 2000?" His answer: talking about "improprieties and changes from the Help America Vote Act" other blather but would not say Gore was robbed.

Very hedge your words, too long in DC feel to him.
