Frontline....At Abu Gahrib...."All sorts of spooky people."
I am sick to my stomach tonight. Why? I watched Frontline`s 90-minute piece on torture, American style. To tell the truth, I cried.

One insider said there are "all sorts of spooky people" at Abu Gahrib, referring to the assortment of interrogators, military and civilian. One thing I learned tonight was that torture is carried out all over Iraq. At Abu Gahrib. In people`s houses. In storage containers. One interrogator described how (inside a storage container) a detainee`s body temperature was kept just above the hypothermia level using ice water. His temperature was regularly checked using a rectal thermometer. Honestly, I can`t even continue.
I should go collect my thoughts.....

1. Get between cheney and the oil and you get tortured or killed.
It's that simple.

4. I am watching it too. I heard several times torture isn't effective
from a few people in the military and FBI that investigated this; they said the thing is the information is not reliable, if you even get any.

This is sick. It's more than that it's EVIL. Rummy and Cheeney and Chumpy and torture Gonzales are EVIL.

5. Somebody quick tell me how honorable our military is
Because stories like these make me forget, and I want to throw a brick through the window at the recruitment center.

6. Fantastic journalism. Finally, the truth!
This made it CLEAR that Rumsfeld was lying his ass off AND that the soldiers did what they did ON ORDERS.

7. After watching Frontline
I was struck by the deep, diabolical depravity in this torture scandal and how closely our policies are to the "evil" Bush and his supporters rail against. Someone has to think up these torture proceedures. Rectal thermometers. Threatening detainees with rape. Using German Shepherds. Breaking foot bones. Using fake menstrual blood. And if this doesn`t work, we simply load them on a plane and take them to Jordan. Or Egypt. No wonder our soldiers are dying in Iraq. We have a lot to answer for.

8. I stumbled onto the report by accident
and couldn't turn it off--or turn away. It was horrible to watch. I only wish more people had seen it. I look forward to the day when this admin. is called to account for its actions. Excuse me for stating the obvious, but what struck me most is how terribly whitewashed the mainstream media are. Thank God for these forums (and the Internet in general); moderate public television having the courage to report the truth in this era of terrorist-hunting, flag-waving, yellow-ribbon wearing fervor; and for the few remaining journalists who are out there on the "front lines" trying to get it right. This program may be what gets the ball rolling in terms of stopping the torture. Some light has been shed. Don't let it flicker and go out. Call your senators and congressmen and tell them how horrified you were at what you saw. Demand actions be taken--to throw the bums out! We really have the power. Did you miss the show? Go to the PBS web site and download it! Watch it. Get really mad. Then call your representative.

Peace,
AL

9. Amen. This really is "must see". It repeats this morning!
Look it up on your PBS local listing and watch/tape it.
