Bill Mahr on CNN: Shrub was AWOL Attn Kerry & Clark people
Terrific...he just gave the details of Bush's military history.
Said he was a draft dodger, & cited Boston Globe. Said how come Clinton always gets nailed, but Bush gets a pass?

Said he knws Clark & he is sharpest of the group. Said it is amazing how well he has done, for a non-politician.

He also credited Kerry. He said how can you top Kerry saving a guy's life in Vietnam. He said he was rich & didn't have to go to Vietnam.

Mahr said Kerry & Clark are best candidates; they are splitting the military vote, & people are choosin Kerry because he is experienced.

On Joementum: he really beat on Joe, said how pathetic he is as a candidate & saying he's tied for 3rd when he came in 5th.

He said that's like the Japanese during WWII, claining they won silver medal.

1. Kerry is probably biding his time before bringing that up.
You saw how the press killed Clark and he didn't even bring it up. It would be better brought up after the nomination is assured and only by someone who didn't dodge the draft himself.

2. Wait a freakin minute!
I seem to recall Kerry joining in the "Burn Clark" moment by saying the claim was "over the top"!

Now that the heat is off, John's opinion changed?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

4. You're not wrong
I remember perfectly. I hadn't been upset by negative bullshit, politics as usual, but that one hurt. I was furious.

6. Well in that case... (obscenity alert)
I've tried to avoid this, but it's better I get it out.

Fuck off, John Kerry!

11. Kerry moved away from Clark as fast as he could while still sitting
in the chair between Novak and Begala.

Even Terry Mac showed more balls that day.

You know when Kerry will bring up this issue for real?

Never.

17. Well, as we saw in the IWR and Patriot Act votes, Kerry is motivated by
politics and ambition.

Clark is motivated by a desire to make things better.

Kerry is a pol animal thru and thru.

20. Deserter vs. AWOL
There is a difference you know.

Deserter is over the top

AWOL is correct

At this time in the Democratic Primaries it does not make sense for a candidate to get into it.

It is bush that was AWOL and it is he that will have to explain the missing time and the cushy position he got at the time. And if Kerry brings it up directly, it would not be until later in the race.

Others will bring it up if the media doesn't think of it on its own after hearing about Kerry's service a ka-jillion times over the next 9 months.

21. Over the top?
http://www-ari.army.mil/pdf/s51.pdf

According to the Army, (see second page)

"Currently, any soldier who has taken an unauthorized leave from his/her training or duty station is considered AWOL. On the 31st day of AWOL, this status is officially changed to Dropped From Rolls (DFR), or desertion."

Someone should infomr the army that thier rules are "over-the-top".

22. ya rightttttttttttttttttt
Kerry is doing the Potomac two step as usual...I'm sure he'll find a safe and secure position on both sides of the issue as usual...I'd give him a break except he stuck a couple knives in Clark about this after the debate.

5. Maher just figured that out, huh?
The Boston Globe story's been out for about 4 years now - most of us knew this already.

And Maher's one of the less whorish pontificators. What do these guys do with their time? Jeebus.

7. Biding his time
He was waiting for the right time to release this to the public. And this would be the right time being an election year with 120k soldiers occupying a foreign country with at least 2 men running with stellar military experience it makes Bush look even worse.

It is not just what you've got but it is also when you use it.

8. Don't blame Mahr
He is always Anti-Bush, & 1 of only a few people to speak out.

Remember, he lost his ABC show, because the Freepers & right wingers went after him for a comment he made. They went nuts, went after ABC, & went after his sponsers.

He is right now doing 1 hour slamming Bush!

13. Terrorists cowards?
Edited on Thu Jan-29-04 12:59 AM by krkaufman
Maher's comment:
"We have been the cowards lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away," he said. "That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly."

EDIT: p.s. He said this the week after the 9/11 WTC attacks. People were a bit sensitive.

9. I think Maher has said it before.
On his regular show and his HBO special. I remember when Ann Coulter was a guest, she tried to impugn Gore's military record, and Maher talked about Bush being AWOL.

18. Mahers BEST move

One of Bill Maher's best move was putting Ann Couleer front and center. She is a dumb, ditsy, pissy angry blonde with the discourse skill of a valley girl. Somehow, hearing the same shit out of HER mouth put everything in perspecitve. The perspective is that most Republican rhetoric is the equivalent of:

"Not me", "He did it", "nananananana", "My dad can beat up your dad", etc...

for his kind words toward Wes! I also suggested to him to invite Wes back and let him stay on the show for the entire hour. :)

14. Good Idea
Mahr is terrific for us, because he is 1 person who speaks the truth.
The crazies have already tried to ruin him, but he's on Cable now, & they can't hurt him as much.

The past hour I watched was the best Bush bashing, truth telling, I have heard from anyone on TV, & Larry King has a large audience.
