I saw a large part of Reid's speech replayed on C-span and I really felt as though he was reading my very own thoughts. (I'm not claiming to be as smart as he is, what I'm saying is FINALLY someone has addressed the things that matter to ME.)
At the end of his very eloquent, and very fact-filled, speech (he invoked Lawrence Wilkerson, the latest Bush critic and the guy who called Cheney's club a "cabal", among other things), Reid then cited their Rule 21. He moved that they stop what they were doing and go into closed session. Durbin IMMEDIATELY (within about two seconds) seconded Reid, and voila! The motion passed (all it takes is a movant, and a person to second it.)
At that point, Frist went running around like a chicken (cat?) with its head cut off and with trembling voice (yes, really!) he breathlessly stammered that he felt like he'd been "slapped in the face". (A happy image.)
Then, after senators from both sides had addressed the media, they went into closed session.
It was at the point that Frist's anguished face was right on camera, that I happened to turn on my TV to CNN. (I caught the Reid speech later while switching channels.)
Durbin pointed out that if he hadn't seconded Reid IMMEDIATELY, the repukes could've made a hurried move which would have prevented the senate from going into closed-doors session, and would've made the whole thing fall flat. Good for Durbin for being ready on the trigger!
It was awesome and with that master stroke, the democrats took back the media from "bird flu" (puh-leeeeze!) and Alito (barf). Back to the indicted member of the Bush/Cheney crime organization. Back to the LIES repukes told everyone, including senate democrats, to force everyone into this fraudulent Iraq war which nobody but Bush and the filthy neocons wanted.
Later I flipped by Fox Propaganda Channel and saw the disgusting Bill Kristol (PNAC member, charter neocon) and it was the FIRST time I've ever seen him without his sickening little smug smile on his ugly little face. Bravo!
Oh...and when they came out, Sen. Roberts, R-Kan, who with Rockefeller is in charge of doing Phase II of the senate intelligence committee's report on Iraq and the lies, and who has deliberately delayed Phase II since July, 2004 (he claimed it was too hot to address during the 2004 election season--what's his excuse now?), said he would clear his calendar and work on this all next week, and that 3 repukes and 3 dems would present a report by Nov. 15 which would tell everyone the outline of how/what/when the Phase II report will be done.
We know Roberts, a known liar, will not do what he promises. The dems have vowed to shut down the senate AGAIN and AGAIN if/when he breaks his promise.
