*I* am thankful that the DU rules allow me to call Jean Schmidt a bitch
See rules link below.

To my reading it is fine that I call the Representative of Ohio's 2nd district a BITCH. If it weren't acceptable to call that bitch a bitch I wouldn't of course. No one should be called a bitch or any other such term without deserving it. But acting like a bitch before someone calls you a bitch (and calls you on being a bitch) is, to me, exactly why the ability to call someone a bitch is still in place.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/forums/rules_detailed.html
Special note with regard to the word "bitch": The word "bitch" has been the source of a great deal of controversy on this website, because some of our members consider it to be a bigoted slur against all women, while others do not consider it bigoted. For a while we actively deleted posts which included this word, in an effort to keep the peace. This effort helped to keep discussions on track, but it resulted in many deleted posts that were otherwise perfectly fine as well as many confused people. Furthermore, the moderators themselves were ambivalent about removing the word. For this reason, we no longer automatically remove the word "bitch." However, we strongly urge members to voluntarily avoid using the word if they wish to keep their own discussions from going off-topic, and we reserve the right to take disciplinary action if we think someone is deliberately using the word in an effort to disrupt or cause trouble.

PS-Jean Schmidt is a bitch.

2. I think when we call a woman a bitch
we need to look at our dear female dogs and decide if that is fair.

7. Call her anything you want, but....
.....I have a problem with people using words like this and other profanities in their titles. I like to leave the DU page up on my computer, and I have young ones in the house that I would rather not have them see such language. If you would refrain from using them in the titles, then they would not appear on the "Latest" page.

I'm no prude, but I fail to see the necessity of using profanity in the titles of posts. I have been a member for over five years, and I would like to see this become a rule.

15. You know, this is really annoying.
I try to do you all a favor and loosen the rules a little bit to give everyone a little freedom to express yourselves. And I take a lot of heat from people who can't believe I would do such a thing, but I argue that I trust DUers to be responsible and not to be deliberately provocative.

And then people post messages like this, virtually waving the word in front of everyone else's face. And it makes me look like a fool for sticking up for all of you and saying that you would be responsible.

And then I get a bunch of threatening alerts from people demanding that the thread be removed. And when people threaten me, the last thing I want to do is grant their request. But still they've got a point, because this is unnecessary and it's just blatant provocation.

You all know that many of our members are offended by the word. Why would anyone want to blatantly wave it around in their face like this?

I'm locking this thread.
