What is the real reason we are in Iraq ?
I think it is about time for people to start asking this question.
I think the the general public knows that these neocon assholes could care less about democracy in Iraq.

is it not just too obvious that petro-chemicals are the only reason we are in Iraq.

Does anyone here think we actually are in Iraq to promote democracy?

Is there some other hidden agenda?

1. No, it's about the petro.
Promoting democracy there has about the same chance of promoting a mom and pop retail shop here where Walmart has already killed off the competition.

Can it be a corporatist domain for the world globalists to make the ultimate profit? That's the second reason why we are there.

A look at www.icasualties.org shows who is paying the price for W's economic adventure.

2. Oil is an easy motive to nail down.
Am I wrong in thinking also that the invasion of Iraq was an attempt to neutralize the military threats these nations pose or posed to Israel? If pacification was a motive has the attempt turned sour? Did Israel see our invasion as a lose lose for them but kept quiet? This perplexes me because I cannot see how anyone believed that Crusades II would turn out any better that the first show.

3. Oil and world domination
That's the reasons why they were getting rid of Saddam for those reasons only and not for freedom and democracy.

4. Well...

There's an off chance that toppling yet another of the Cold War set of Stalinist dictators, thereby
finishing off residual elements of the Cold War, might have been a motive for getting in.
Especially one who thumbed his nose at the old Nixon crowd with their asses still hurting
from the kicking that 'Nam gave them.

As for staying in...yeah, these boys running the show are pirates. But there was a lot more
money in selling the Iraqis oil production infrastructure than actually dealing the oil, and
a hell of a lot more money even than that in just plain stealing from the American taxpayer
under the pretense of needing it to wage a war or win the peace.

I don't get why they got themselves locked into this "freedom and democracy" selling point either.
My guess is that Junior and Crashcart Man wanted to prove Bush Senior and Clinton (who warned
them off, obviously) wrong about Iraq, wanted to show themselves as superior and not
intimidated from grandiose achievements by a bunch of Arabs with AK-47s and RPGs. It was
all about vindicating their theory of Triumph Of The Will from the start, from Shock & Awe onwards.

Vanity, vanity, all is vanity saith The Preacher.

Rebuilding America's Defenses

American hegemony for the 21st Century

is what the neocons want

Disrupting and refocusing the Arabs on something besides Israel

is what Israel wants (and her servants within the US government)

Fulfilling a twisted apocalyptic view of biblical prophecy

is what the religiously insane Christian right wants

$$$$ and $$$$$ and more $$$$$

is what Halliburton and Carlyle Group want

destabilization of the only secular power in the region

is what the religiously insane Islamic fundies want

it's a convergence of interests of all the groups involved in the coup of 2000 and 9-11

but that's all too complicated to put in a 5-second soundbite and therefore impossible for Murkans to grasp

so "Oil" will have to do

6. "Pax Americana"
World domination is the PNAC agenda. So far, they've infiltrated the WH, Pentagon, UN and World Bank, well on their way to achieving their ultimate goals. Iraq is Control Central for their Mideast operations. Details in my sig line link.

11. It's also about the water -- the tigris-euphrates runs through center of
Iraq and when water is scares, the private companies controlling water in an area of the world which can create so much wealth from oil will hold a lucrative regional franchise that will generate a lot of money and power.

14. Oil is not the only reason. Israel is a big one.
This doesn't mean Israel per se, it means that the PNAC and others who think they're looking out for Israel's interests want us there.

We're there for oil, to buttress Israel, to have a base in a valuable (because of oil) part of the world, to help keep the roiling mess that is Saudi Arabia from exploding, to show the world that we're big tough guys and to suck as much oil as possible. Oh, and there's lots of oil there.

It's not just about oil, much as that is the major motivation.

15. Could someone tell me why we support Israel so much? I know
we are behind them because the are a democratic nation, etc., but I recently read somewhere the huge amount of money we send them annually...WHY? Are we bound by a historical pact or something?
