DLC is everywhere! Even Obama is helping them!
The Black Commentator reports that Obama has "created a political action committee, HopeFund, to finance 14 of his senatorial colleagues - ten of whom are DLC (that's half of the DLC presence in the Senate.)"

OH AGONY! AAAAAAGGGGOOOOOONNNNYYYYY!

I like Barack even better now!

1. A Democrat is a Democrat
DLC or whatever, they all need help and should be given it. Republicans need to be defeated and complaining about the DLC doesn't help us do that.

2. Not to worry....
Earlier today I was assured by one of our anti-DLCers that Rush Holt would save us from the group's evil plans--wait! Rush Holt is IN the DLC! Aiyeee!!

I'm going to pout furiously now.

Almost as funny as when someone here told me that Tim Kaine's victory shows the DLC's time is over.

25. Did you see my new stance
anti-DLCers are war-mongerers. I figured anyone not fighting for the majority must not want the war to end because it won't end as long as we are willing to hand seats over to the democrats in our anti-DLC tirades

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2309965

I'm just not putting up with it anymore. I want a majority and I'll go to the mattresses fighting for one.

All DLC
ers should burn in hell and any one with the letters DLC in their name and anyone who lives on a street with DLC in the letters or people who live in towns or cities with DLC in the name or anyone who is married, dated or kin to a person with the letters DLC in their name or a car with the letters DLC on it.

Or a job with the letters DLC in it or read a book with the letters DLC in it or ever typed the letters DLC.

When they (incorrectly) wrote that he was DLC, his office practically fell over themselves to say that was not the case.

I can't imagine why...

16. BC didn't say that Obama WAS dlc - read the quote again
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 06:27 PM by radio4progressives
"DLC BRAND STAMPED all over it" (emphasis mine)
is not the same "IS a DLC'

"Obama's speech had the Democratic Leadership Council's (DLC) brand stamped all over it. "

on edit: of course Black Commentator's direct implication that Obama must be taking marching orders or at least reading from the DLC talking points - is an important point well taken and is evident in the rhetoric.

19. I understand, point taken...
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 07:00 PM by radio4progressives
personally, i'm disappointed that Obama has decided to do the 'dlc tango', i had so much hope placed in him.

mostly because i really do like him and feel that my initial feelings of a 'kindred spirit' with him would be validated if we ever met in person. I like pretty much how he questioned Condi Rice in her confirmation hearings and even though he voted to confirm, i felt i understood that he was new on the scene, and needed to keep his powder dry for the bigger fights to come.

i like that he had taken a keen interest in nuclear anti-proliferation and went on a delegation tour in Russia - even got arrested there (sheesh!) - i listened to his report of that trip and his findings with Lugar with interest.

ever since the national convention last year i threw my faith his way to guide the direction this party needed to go..

but now, it appears they got to him.

there's still a chance he could find his way back to the grassroots again. but the system is so corrupt and rigged, it was probably impossible for him to avoid.

14. Black Commentator is Excellent! Good one on DLC too- [Excerpts here]
Black Commentator tells like it is:

http://www.blackcommentator.com/161/161_cover_obama_ira...

(snip)

U.S. Senator Barack Obama has planted his feet deeply inside the Iraq war-prolongation camp of the Democratic Party, the great swamp that, if not drained, will swallow up any hope of victory over the GOP in next year's congressional elections. In a masterpiece of double-speak before the prestigious Council on Foreign Relations, November 22, the Black Illinois lawmaker managed to out-mush-mouth Sen. John Kerry - a prodigious feat, indeed.

Obama's speech had the Democratic Leadership Council's (DLC) brand stamped all over it. Triangulating expertly, Obama first praised the war record of Rep. John Murtha (D-PA), who has called for immediate steps towards U.S. military redeployment out of Iraq, hopefully in six months, then dismissed both Murtha's bill and any hint of "timetables" for withdrawal. In essence, all Obama wants from the Bush regime is that it fess up to having launched the war based on false information, and to henceforth come clean with the Senate on how it plans to proceed in the future. Those Democrats who want to dwell on the past - the actual genesis and rationale for the war, and the real reasons for its continuation - should be quiet.

Both sides are wrong, says Obama - deploying the classic triangulation device - for engaging in a "war of talking points" - "one I am not interested in joining." Then Obama positions himself above the fray:

"Iraq was a major issue in last year's election. But that election is now over. We need to stop the campaign."

(snip)

21. I don't think many of the...
...lord, how do I say this without starting a flame war...

The black community loves a liberal, but someone with ambitions for a nationally elected office, like high office, isn't going to get there coming out of the box screaming "I'm a liberal". They can have liberal policies, they can even on occasion (ala Santos in West Wing) come out and say something outright liberal, but they won't win the Presidency being a "dyed-in-the-wool" liberal. You'd have too much to overcome with scared white men thinking a minority would take office and immediately start taxing him 20% more to hand out reparations.

I think Obama is doing just fine.

26. The AA community isn't very pleased with the Neo Libs ...
in fact, most of the AA community and other people of color consider libruls as phony white suprmacists - and as a middle aged, progressive white woman, i can't say they're wrong.

After all, Obama is the only Black in the Senate, (and he's not even 100% black) and he just got elected in 2004! This speaks volumes as to the truth about so called libruls from the point of view of the AA community.

yes, i know all about Clinton's appointments. why did it have to be the WH but not the Senate until 2004?

and in case most people missed it, the repugs caught on as anyone with a pair of eyeballs can see.

That said, I happen to like Obama a lot.

28. "phony white suprmacists "
Yeah, surrrrrrrrrre......

How did that work out when black voters were faced with DLCer Tim Kaine, I wonder?

"Black voters favor Kaine over Kilgore by 85 percent to 8 percent "

http://loper.org/~george/archives/2005/Nov/973.html

"This speaks volumes as to the truth about so called libruls"
Actually, what it speaks volumes about is YOUR willingness to invent any smear, no matter how low and disgraceful.

What's he supposed to do? Withhold support to make the BC happy? These are the candidates with the best chance of making the Democrats the majority party.

33. Exactly so...
Worth noting that many of the DLC candidates in November 2006 are walloping their Republican opponents and cruising toward victory.

Joe Lieberman is cruising toward victory with a 69% approval rating among ALL Connecticut voters, and state Democrats are trying to unseat a popular Republican governor. They're not going to rip up their ticket just to please a handful of punk-ass out of state "progressive purists"....
