Bush sees good 2005, warns of terrorism threat

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush called 2005 "a good year for the American people," but cautioned that terrorists like those who carried out the September 11 attacks still posed a threat.

In brief remarks outside the White House as he headed to the Camp David presidential retreat for Christmas, Bush also pointed to elections in Iraq and in Afghanistan and said the US economy had grown stronger.

"This has been a year of strong progress toward a freer, more peaceful world and a prosperous America," he said. "It's been a good year for the American people."

Death and destruction in LA and neighboring states, from the worst national disaster in US history (his administration), devastating families across the country, and this fool says this was a good year for freedom.

Well, like mother, like son. Buffoons!

13. Among many things, this really scares me as well. I know folks like to
qualify their concerns by mumbling something about tinfoil hats, but there really are dark-hearted, evil and malevolent people. I've known a few. Furtive, secretive, vile-speaking, vindictive, and prone to violence are some descriptors I would use, BUT these views are shown only to intended victims. Most of the time, normality rules and appearances are made to seem congenial/cordial--depends on who you are, and where you fit in the pecking order I guess.

Our vile politicos have POWER and are co-opting for more ALL the time. THEY are the terrorists we need fear, and they are homegrown, not foreign.
Do not fear the bastards because they do not fear you. Vigilance, sunshine and steady voices are the key WMD against *types. May it never come again to civil violence.

4. And only a few people have frozen to death so far.
What will say about 2006 when all the LIHEAP funds run out? Will freezing be a matter of personal choice? Thank gawd for the culture of life!

5. "A good year for the American people"??
Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 03:57 PM by ocelot
Which American people would those be, you putz? The families of over 2,000 dead soldiers? The laid-off employees of bankrupt airlines and other corporations? The victims of Hurricane Katrina who still can't find a place to live? The unemployed former employees of companies who outsourced their jobs to India? Elderly people getting screwed by the bogus Medicare drug plan? All those people who no longer can afford gas for their cars or heat for their homes? Kids whose families can't afford college tuition any more? Those American people?

Oh, yeah, George. The American people had a GREAT year.

6. No good news without the threat
Implied there, of course, is the idea that if you don't line up behind Dear Leader, the Good Times will come to an end, and there will be another terrorist attack. In fact, we probably will have another terrorist attack, because way too many of you rabble have gotten out of line recently, to the point where some of Bush's most dependable toadies are croaking about doubts they have.

Another couple of buildings falling over in Manhattan or San Francisco might just be needed to get people thinking properly again about what a marvelous debt of gratitude we all owe to Mr. Bush and his faultless administration.

10. What happened to Social Security reform?
That was *'s Big Idea at the beginning of 2005.

Terrorism dropped off the radar after the election and suddenly "fixing" Social Security was the new crisis for a few months.

14. Analysts: Bush had a bad year
His Republican party's narrow majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate will be at stake in a political contest shaped by concerns over the economy and newly aggressive calls for a timetable to withdraw from Iraq.

Sky-high oil prices, a CIA leak scandal, and a bungled response to Hurricane Katrina also helped drive his poll numbers to their lowest levels ever in what analysts say was the US president's worst year since taking office.

"This has been Bush's horrible year," said political expert Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia.

15. What is he smoking?
A short list - Katrina, high heating oil prices, the economy in the toilet, escalating violence in Iraq. This is all good to him? Notice how he so casually invokes 9/11 yet again?
